We knew that the third and final encounter of the season with Hotspurs was going to be a good test. Despite their league position, they are another side that can be a huge challenge. In the first half, that turned out to be the case as despite having the majority of possession, we found it difficult to create many decent chances. Hotspurs were organised and Nick was a good outlet for them. We forced a couple of good stops from the ‘keeper and Tinks managed to hit both posts so we thought it was going to be one of those frustrating days. With 2 minutes until halftime, cue Sharples, who had already come close with a few previous efforts. Our number 9 received the ball from Rat Rig on the left hand side and managed to find half a yard on the full back before steering his shot into the far corner. 1-0, an important time to score and a step towards atoning for his dad’s DOD nomination for entering the field and kicking the ball whilst it was still in play. Although he thought the whole ball had gone out earlier, the Judge, jury and executioner deemed it to be a jager penalty for Mr Sharples Senior. 10 minutes into the second half, Tactical Tally brought on some fresh legs, including 1TM youth product Ben Marshall. He was straight into the action when he pulled the ball back from the touch line and Sharples finished well from the back post to get his second of the afternoon. Our third came when Tinks picked up the ball from the edge of the area and shot towards goal. It was well saved by the ‘keeper but he was first to the rebound for a self assist and a great finish. 3-0. More good link up play between Sharples and Marshall saw the ball fall to Tinks again on the edge of the area. This time, his effort rocketed past the ‘keeper and clipped the underside of the bar. 4-0 A fifth was scored when Sharples received the ball from Marshall again at the back post and calmly passed the ball into the bottom corner. 5-0 Our final goal was scored after Flat White’s effort was again saved well but Marshall was first to the rebound to make it 6 and cap off a fine performance from the youngster. 6-0. Another great performance by 1TM and we go into next week’s fixture with Hibs knowing that even more effort and quality will be required. Huge thanks to the whole squad; Hotspurs for a fair match, and the Cosmo officials legends (Brad, Alex and Rob) for managing the game well.
