Despite conceding two early goals to poor defending and having a man sent off before half time Vikings put up a stubborn showing, the scoreline is a little harsh on the boys in red. 1TM are a good side who have strength in depth and they needed to draw on this to get the result. Congratulations to Tally and his boys.
After a few weeks off to enjoy the festive period, 1TM were ready to restart 2023 in the form we ended 2022 in. Everyone in the squad said that they did a bit of running and a couple of press ups during the break, but the first game back of the year is always a tricky fixture especially when up against a quality opponent in the Vikings. Going into this match, we knew that it was going to be a challenge as the Vikings were keen to atone for their last result against title chasing SFC. Despite a couple of players still traveling (Tinks surprise surprise) Tactical Tally was able to assemble a strong squad. Despite a bit of rust in our pre-match admin, 1TM started the match brightly playing some good football and looking lovely down the flanks. Within the first 5 minutes, we got a throw deep into Vikings teeeitiry and Baker - aka The Jav - hurled one of his bombs into the Viking’s box. The clearance broke to Nate near the edge of the area and his liquid hips allowed him to wrap his foot over the ball with a snap shot that gave the ‘keeper no chance. Before the water break, we made it 2-0 after more precision from The Jav. He delivered a floated corner towards the far post for Flat White to meet with a decent header that was saved well. Fortunately, the rebound fell kindly back to FW who dispatched the ball into the goal. Rather than 1TM killing the game off, the Vikings began to edge back into the contest and created a couple of good openings that tested the 1TM defence. They did get a goal back when their number 11 managed to capitalise on a misplaced piece of control on the halfway line and found himself 1:1 on one with POB. A calm finish made it 2-1. The fight back might have been successful had the Vikings not been reduced to 10 men shortly afterwards when their big CB was shown a second yellow for a second foul on Lego, After that, 1TM were unlucky not to restore our 2 goal cushion as a wrong offside call from the linesman chalked off FW getting his second. Next, Nate was unlucky not to get his second when he had one strike from distance well saved by the keeper and another great effort that bounced back off the bar. HT 2-1 With 10 vs 11, the second half played out in a predictable fashion with 1TM having most of the possession and the Vikings working hard for each other to seize any opportunity that they could create. Chances were limited and credit to our opponent that despite being a man down we couldn’t get the third and Vikings continued to look dangerous going forward on the break. In the 90th minute, the engine that is JR picked out a pass to Flat White who managed to get behind the defence and his cutback was met by Gerbil who tucked away a comfortable finish to seal all 3 points. Well played to Vikings - they demonstrated a huge amount of character to make the game such a competitive one. Thanks to the referee and linesmen for their part on controlling the game. Huge thanks to the whole squad, especially the game changers for making the difference and finally for team Plastic Brick for coming down to support DOD : - Didge 1TM MOM : - Ruby VIKINGS MOM : - Joe Wright KIT / BALLS / PUMP: - Gerbil
