A sunny 5pm kickoff saw 1TM take on the Vikings at Turf City. Both teams were in need of a response after suffering defeats last weekend so it was set up to be a great match. The opening exchanges didn’t disappoint with both sides seeing the ball and testing each other’s defence. The first goal was scored by 1TM after Dev played a decent ball over the top and Nate caused problems for the ‘keeper with his flick on. As the last Viking man tried to clear, the hardworking Taishi was there to close down and the ball looped into the empty net. 1-0. 1TM began to see more of the ball and had another couple of chances to score. One special moment came from Sharples who took the ball in his own half and went on a mazy run past a couple of defenders and then his curling effort struck the outside of the post. The second goal for 1TM came from good pressing by Lego and his pull back to Sharples saw him rifle home. 2-0 HT 2-0 The Vikings responded well in the second half and their attacking quality was rewarded with a goal early on. The ball was cut back to a Vikings midfielder, whose shot from the edge of the area could only be parried by POB and then tapped home from close range by a grateful Vikings forward. 2-1 1TM regained their composure and scored a third soon after. Sharples took the ball from a good cross out wide and smacked home a deserved second for him. 3-1 The Vikings continued to fight and show their quality and were unlucky not to get back in the game with the chances that they created. In the end 1TM’s defence held firm and the red and whites came away with the win. Thanks to the Vikings for an entertaining match and the officials for their involvement today. Big thanks to Team Caramba, Rocky, Steveo, JR and Vito Corleone for coming down to support MOM - Frando DOD - Dev (P 2 DOD 2)
Another fruitless day for the Vikings, partly down to our own making and partly because 1TM were very good going forward. Vikings did't settle too well and a mix up up the back saw them 1 down midway through the first half. Another goal before the break meant a 2-0 half time scoreline. We briefly rallied and got back into the game when Meli turned one in from a Dubsky shot which POB did well to get to. 1TM could have caved in at this point but they held strong and another weakly conceded goal saw the game done and dusted. This was a good game but too many mistakes from the boys in red made for a miserable result. The real Vikings will be back soon! Well done to Tally and his boys and thanks to the match officials.
