A big garlic monkeys squad assembled to battle the lions on saturday afternoon. Seeing the Lions were a bit light on subs we were intent on putting them under pressure in the first half. We had a strong first 20 with peter getting in behind on a number of occasions. Plenty of corners, but not clear chances until Dazzler got free in the box and was foiled by a top class save by the lions Gk. We looked like we might get ahead in the first 20 but the long got back into it for the second portion of the first half and started to get some possession in midfield. Adri ruben and tibo matched the lions intensity and a tough first half finished 0-0. We hoped the lions might drop the intensity for the second half given their lack off subs but they continued to run us down. We were creating half chances but no clear cut opening until the introduction of tinder with 30 mins to go. A fantastic pass from ruben found peter on the left wing and he threaded the ball to the edge of the box where the queen of nutmegs was waiting to smash it into the bottom right corner. Within a minute a nice move had darren turn at the edge of the box and shoot only to see the ball hit the base of the post. With the rest of the subs introduced and the lions pushing for an equaliser we were looking more dangerous on the break and after some good passing football adri smashed the cross bar. Malacca went through moments later and laid it on a plate for addy who gave us the breathing space at 2-0. With the lions really committing everybody forward we stole another when great battling work from oliver put addy through and he stroked it in to give us the 3-0 win. Super team performance with the bench almost contributing all goals and assists. Praise to the fat controller for making the correct changes a the correct times. MOM today to Ruben for another mountain performance in CM. Cheers to the lions for a good battle and mom to churcie, looking forward to the return leg.
Saturday started off in a surreal manner as the Lions guest of honour for the game, Clive Tyldesley, went missing in the early hours of Saturday morning. A police report was filed but with all of the time spent looking for Clive, the gaffer and 16 players were unable to make the game against Aioli PM. Our search for Clive took us far and wide across the island with sightings of Clive in Jurong, Clementi and Bedok which meant an accurate search was next to impossible. This island may be small but it is certainly big when searching for ITV's top commentator. This has clearly been a traumatic affair for all concerned at the Gaelic Lions and the worry about Clive added, in no small terms, to the Lions difficult start to the season. At this point Clive is still out there, if you find him or see him approach with caution, he could be dangerous. And hungry.
