TGA came into the final game of the season unexpectedly needing to right some wrongs over the previous weeks and put to bed any ideas Hibs could do the recent double over us, but more importantly finish the season in the right way. We had a strong team out and all pre match talk was about getting the right result, finishing on a high. The first half was quite tight both teams trying to find their way through and some chances at either end. It wasn’t until Nate was pushed in the box from a corner and Sharpy gave us the half time lead from the spot. As usual we try to let teams back in it and Hibs could have scored straight after but failed to take their chance. Taishi should have had a penalty near the end of the half...not sure how the officials missed that one. HT:1-0. We were playing decent football throughout the game, knocking it around nicely, and was a bit more enjoyable to watch from the sidelines too apparently (just plenty of abuse that came with it from 3-pint Jim). After a few more chances Nate managed to get on the end of a corner at the back post to head home past their keeper and give TGA a more comfortable lead. A slight mishap at the back nearly cut the lead in half but big man Bernd managed to cling onto the ball after a slip. The rest of the half we were creating more chances and Sharpy got his second when he was slipped through one on one. Reinforcements were on by now and one of them, Aaron, made one lung bursting run (just one and that’s him done) to tap home from Taishi’s good work down the right. FT:4-0 and a very enjoyable way to finish off an incredible season. What do we do with our Saturdays now? All the best to Hibs in the final!
Hibs were soundly beaten by Champions TGA at Turf City to round off the league season finishing 9th. Hibs defended well in the first half and limited TGA to a couple of half chances. TGA went a goal up after chaos in the box after Ryan tangled and fell with his man and when Nick stumbled over the pile of boddies, he was seen to have barged Nathan. Harsh. Sharples scored from the resulting penalty. On the stroke of half-time Nick was bamboozled by some witchcraft trickery and lunged in but somehow the officials missed this much clearer penalty. TGA began to create more in the second half but man-of-the-match, Vish, was in fine form to make very good saves. Satoru and An Rui had decent chances for Hibs but things weren't coming off and Hibs weren't playing well. Nathan got free at a set piece and scored, Sharples kept himself onside for a change and got a third and the fourth came in the last moments. On the plus side, the beer kitty was topped up with the two youngest players, Xav and Joel, adding a foul-throw and cramp fines into the pot and a host of other stupid things being punished. An enjoyable league season is done and thanks go to all involved in making the league run as well as it does.
