On Saturday at 11am at the German European School, GSAS faced Comsoleague's top team, Latini, with some key players missing and only a 13-player squad in the lovely Singapore heat. GSAS started with a strong defensive performance in the first minutes, making it very difficult for Latini to get close to the goal while also managing some promising attacks. Unfortunately, after 16 minutes, a Latini striker scored with a deflected shot from the distance. Just seconds before the first water break, another long-distance shot slipped through the hands of the GSAS goalkeeper, increasing Latini's lead to 2-0. GSAS kept their heads up and continued to fight back. Latini tried to increase their lead further with constant changes in positions upfront, but the GSAS midfield, led by Nick and Quirin, along with the entire defense, managed to stay close and keep Latini away from the goal. The second half started the same way the first one ended with Latini trying to attack and GSAS defending very disciplined. A foul 20 meters in front of the GSAS box led to a free kick for Latini, which was perfectly placed in the goal, leaving Gerard with no chance to save it. GSAS still did not give up and tried to create chances, but only managed to hit the crossbar after a corner. Ten minutes later, a quick play by Latini led to a one-on-one situation with the GSAS keeper. Although the first and second shots were saved, the third one hit the bar and bounced behind the line, making it 4-0. With that, the game was finally decided. GSAS continued to stay disciplined, but their energy levels dropped, allowing Latini to score two more goals with nice plays and strong finishing. All in all, everyone defended very well until the very end, and the whole team showed great team spirit. Congratulations to Latini for a deserved win (perhaps two goals too high) and thanks for a fair game. MoM: Nik W for great “beast” performance in the back DoD: Robert W for not only ruining one but two pairs of shoes
1TM delivered a statement 6-0 win over German Swiss Allstars on a brutally hot day. In-form striker Sharples stole the show with a stunning hat trick, including a sublime free kick from the edge of the box that undoubtedly was the pick of the goals. Duplo and WEX (x2) added to the tally, sealing a dominant performance from 1TM.
