Despite the constant rain and heavy traffic conditions, GAS managed to have all players available for the kick-off, even though the last arrivals barely had time for a proper warm-up. GAS planned to continue the good performances from the past weeks but a well prepared Hibs team started the game very attentively and efficiently, quickly scoring their first goal after a fatal pass in the GAS defense. GAS tried to fight back into the game but often got stuck at the solid defensive line of the Hibs. The game could have taken a different turn if Thomas would have taken the shot after his great solo run, but it eventually got cleared on the goal line. A quick throw in, a great cross and a header (which was hard to defend) marked the second Hibs goal which left GAS a bit baffled as they have invested a lot into this game. Hibs managed to score another two goals before the half-time, efficiently using its chances against a GAS team that started to lack self-confidence in turning this game around. In the second half, GAS changed its tactics and decided to push higher and more aggressively. While this created some chances, this move was prone to counter attacks as well, one of them used by the Hibs to score the fifth goal and the final score of the day. GAS could not replicate the good performances from the past weeks and Hibs was a strong opponent, efficiently using its chances, especially in the first half. Well deserved win, congrats to Hibs and all the best for the rest of the season!
A rain-soaked night at GESS ended with a triumphant Hibs walk off the pitch 5-0 winners against GAS, thanks to clinical finishing and a strong performance across the whole side. Hibs started with intent, and took the lead quickly when veteran forward Dan Martin reacted first to a loss ball to smash home the opener. GAS then had a great chance to equalise, but Billy made himself large and smothered a shot from point-blank range after GAS had beaten the offside trap. This save was to prove crucial, as Hibs promptly went down the other end and a lovely cross from Patrick was met with a powerful header by Bolts. Hibs were 2-0 up, with less than a quarter of the match played. It was soon 3-0 after some lovely interplay on the left-hand side, and Will's reverse pass to Bolts was taken in smartly. The Number 9's finish was cool, and Hibs were playing some lightning football under the floodlights. The momentum was very much with Hibs, and Billy and Jack were aggressive against the GAS attack, stopping them at source and winning their 50-50s. James was marauding up the right side from fullback, and Vasco, in his first appearance in months, looked like he'd never left - linking up with his teammates beautifully and floating across the pitch from his right wing berth. He almost scored a sumptuous goal, cutting in on his left, but a fine save from the GAS keeper tipped the ball onto the bar. Hibs soon made it four in the first half, after a dinked ball to Sam, who'd made a darting run into the right channel. His cross caused confusion, and our fox in the box Dan made it two goals apiece for him in Bolts in the opening 45. The second half was all about maintaining a professional performance for Hibs, and scoring their fifth goal within 10 minutes of the restart was exactly what the doctor ordered. Some incisive attacking play found Dan in a central position, and he stabbed the ball out to Vasco, who danced past one, then two, then smashed the ball home. GAS continued to trouble Hibs with searching balls over the top, but were unable to convert their chances, and Billy made some great saves to preserve the clean sheet. Good luck to GAS for the rest of the season.
