Halfway through the season and with GSAS having already exceeded last season’s points tally, the boys in white and black were keen to build on a solid foundation against OG on Saturday afternoon. (Relatively) cool weather and strong line-ups on either side meant everything was set up for a cracking game of cosmo league football. GSAS started the better and took the lead on 13 minutes when Bence won a bouncing ball on the edge of the box. It broke to Dee in the area and he smashed it home for 1-0, which made it 3 in 3 for the in-form striker. OG came back into the game after that and got their reward when JB scored from a free-kick to make it 1-1. A sloppy period for GSAS and we knew we’d have to improve in the second half to get the 3 points. And improve we did. Luca and Julian, who both put in excellent performances, started to gain control of the midfield and after going close on a few occasions, we finally got the goal our efforts deserved. On 75 minutes, Q, rolling back the years, picked up the ball on the left and drove towards goal. Just as he approached the byline he shifted back on to his right foot and fired a bullet into top of of the net for 2-1. Great goal. The message then was to keep our discipline and see out the last 15 minutes…but super sub Simon Schegg had different ideas. With his first touch after coming on he unleashed a 30 yarder which caught the OG keeper off his line and flew into the back of the net. A lovely strike to seal the points. OG still had time to create a couple of chances but couldn’t find the net and it finished 3-1. A pleasing victory to kickstart the second half of the season. Lots of strong performances across the team, but MOM went to Luca for a terrier like performance in the middle. DOD unanimously went to Mark, who was so bad on the day that he was made to down a beer, wash the kit AND write the match report. An unprecedented trio of punishments! (Addition by the coaches: He wasn't that bad...only his touch was :D ) Last but not least, a mention to Jonathan and team for a well officiated match and letting the game flow (despite cruelly denying us a second half water break)
OGS took on the in-form GSAS for the first match of the second leg of the season. We started off the match poorly: we could not find our rhythm and were lacking aggression. Soon enough, we paid the price as GSAS scored a goal as our defenders did not play to the whistle only to let the GSAS striker run through our defence. We conceded many free kicks, and after hitting the post through Shafiq's great effort, JB slotted the equaliser before the stroke of half time to make it 1-1. The second half saw us gain more momentum with more fluid movements, nonetheless it was not enough to stop GSAS from scoring 2 more to seal the victory. Great match GSAS and all the best for the rest of the season!
