Week 13 Round Up! It's A Funny Old Game!

Olympique Gaulois must have thought that Christmas had come early on Saturday when they found themselves a goal to the good and with their opponents, SFC, reduced to ten men before half time. Alas, it was not to be for the French outfit as the three wise men, Teagle, Shotton & Hutcheon, made a timely arrival and delivered  priceless goods. The game was everything you would expect from the two top teams; effort, desire, tough tackling and with plenty of chances to boot. Shotton could have got things off to a good start for the Sashmen when they were awarded a penalty, he appeared to scuff the kick and as a result the ball bobbled agonisingly wide. The French were awarded a penalty of their own shortly after and they made no mistake in converting to take the lead into the half time break. Many on the sideline were expecting OG to go on to take the points but a superb second period from the men in red saw them defy the odds and run out  deserved 3-1 winners. This means that they return to the top of the league as we go into the mid-season break with OG sitting just behind.

Gaelic continued their recent upsurge in performances when they secured a point in the Friday night fixture against last year's champions, Rangers. The Irish contingent will be slightly disappointed not to have taken all the points as they led for long periods of the game through an Iskander Radewaldt effort, Fraser Anderson fired late to level.

Aioli, disappointed at the previous week's postponement of their game against Hibs (4-1 up at the time) entertained GSAS down at Turf City. The game was level after 45 min but Monkey's took the lead mid way through the second half. It appeared that they would go on to win, especially when Corbo pulled off a stunning penalty save from Wilson, but it was not to be as the Germans scored late with a header from the penalty miss culprit.

Nippon gave it everything down at the large PSA  pitch as they matched up against Hibs, a solitary goal separated the teams as Hibs secured the victory which takes them into the top four.

This draws a close to the first half of the season which has been highly competative and fun to be part of. It is all to play for when we resume the competition on 11th January, can't wait.

Until next time, Have a Very Merry & Happy Christmas!
