League News

And we're off.....

Under the Friday night lights of UWC, the 2018/19 season kicked off with Casuals FC hosting the Singapore Vikings, accompanied by plenty of travelling support. No doubt both teams eager to collect 3 points and sit top of the league, for one night at least. Casuals FC were looking strong at the Windmill Cup, full of youth and energy (great, bodes well for us pushing mid 30s and above). They would definitely have to be at their best, to turnover one of the most competitive and consistent top half finishers in the league. In the end, it seems like experience managed to get the better of youth, with Vikings ending victorious with a 2-1 win.

The first Saturday fixtures of the season saw some mouth-watering games on show. With a 3pm Kick-Off, 1TM Latini took on Hotspurs FC, in blistering heat at Turf City. Plenty of familiar faces on show with some new recruits in attendance also. Battling game from the sounds of it, with Latini coming out on top as 2-1 winners, Pep grabbing the decider.

A 5pm kick off at Turf City, saw TGA Rangers take on Aioli Monkeys FC in the Sahara Derby. With both teams keen to claim 3 points and bragging rights to go with it, a very tough battle ensued. Both teams had their chances, with defensive lines having to work hard. It took until the 85th minute for the deadlock to be broken. Mike Sharples crafting an excellent solo effort to take the spoils. Aioli no doubt disappointed not to get anything out of the game, as they played very well.

The other 5pm game saw defending champions SCC take on the Windmill Cup runners up, FC Nippon at Dempsey. No doubt both teams keen to put an early marker down, and show their intent this year. SCC making their intentions clear, with a 4-0 victory over a strong FC Nippon and going to the top of the table on goal difference, with Hutch grabbing a brace.

Four teams open their campaign this weekend. The newly formed German-Swiss All Stars, last season’s runners up Gaelic Lions, Olympique Gaulois and Hibs. Good luck to all those involved.
