For me, this is why I love football. While I think we controlled most the game, OGS kept right in it throughout. 1-0 is such a precarious scoreline. And, the truth is, OGS could've easily grabbed a point or three if not for a wonderful save from Shailer, a fair enough penalty shout and the ball whizzing across the goal in the last ten. Kind of fight and resolve we love at Gaelic Lions towers. That said very happy with our reaction, control and energy. Smithie corner, Ronan bundled over the line. 1-0. And we got our second while basically down to ten men for last twenty - Jamie hobbling on one leg (4 injuries picked up and only 3 subs!). Charlie finishing off as French pushed on to force an equaliser with 5 to go. Great to see our group of young players grow more and will only get better as they get used to adult football. Epitomised by Nick at centre back this week. Totw goes to me. The irony. All organised (I thought!) with our fixtures pre season to only find out today that our game next week is Friday when I'd communicated Saturday so our limited squad could plan. Sigh. But we will fight on like our gallic cousins. Thanks for the game OGS! Your number 10 (Unni?) caused a few problems so gets my nod.
Finally match day after a long awaited start of the season! 5pm fixtures are always a treat. Gaelic Lions took control of the game from the get go whereas we struggled to find our rhythm and settle down to control the tempo. Eventually Gaelic Lions took the lead by scoring from a corner kick. A more promising end of first and second half for us, as we managed to play our game and create chances. Unfortunately, we were not able to convert any. In the last minutes of the game, Gaelic Lions managed to score a second. A promising start to the season for OGS, as we look to build and play our game. Great job to Gaelic Lions who played very well and showed great sportsmanship throughout the game.
