Report

Clash of the titans leaving GSAS at the bottom

In our second last match of this season, we battled against Hotspurs for the 8th place and the conditions were clear: We needed at least a draw to keep them on the last place of the table. Contrary to the last weeks we had a full squad with the support of four players from the Dutch team and we showed a decent start into the game. We followed our initial strategy to tackle aggressively in our half, thus keeping Hotspurs away from our goal. But, we were also unable to create our own chances, leaving the spectators with a rather uninspired football game until shortly before half-time. A nice cross from Hotspurs into our box was converted with a solid header, the first real chance from the opponent that brought them the 1:0. We brought on some more attacking power in the second half and managed to get more possession, however without creating clear chances. On the contrary, our offensive tactic opened room for counter attacks, but Nicolas kept us in the game with an excellent save. 15 minutes before the end of the game, Dee had an idea, passed the ball to Jaap who was suddenly in front of their goalkeeper without being able to convert this chance. Our biggest chance in fact. We continued to play forwards but a misunderstanding in the midfield resulted in another counterattack which Hotspurs easily finished to the final 2:0 score, pushing us to the bottom of the league.
