With pouring rain flooding the pitch one hour before the game there was little hope to play but we finally managed to kick off with 40min delay. We knew Latini ambition but we’re determined to give them a hard time throughout the game. Unfortunately we only lasted 45min. Game started quite well both team creating decent opportunities. While latini had the ball our block was preventing dangerous situation. Slowly we managed to get the possession in our favour with high aggressiveness and got rewarded Dani finding Ivan for the 1-0. A deserved lead which also was possible through Chris impeccable performance. We continued with the same game plan and on a counter Dani dribbled most defender and though his shot was in but finally saw the ball bouncing on the post… that was a turning point in the game followed by two poor defensive error and Latini found themselves very lucky to be leading 2-1 at half time. Nothing much to say in second half. While we gradually collapsed physically and had a succession of poor decisions Latini showed us what it meant to be 90min fit. We conceded 4 goals in 20min managing to get one through Anatole. We paid the hard price for our first half efforts. 6-2 final score. Well done to the Latini and good luck for the ongoing race title. You are where you deserve to be Thanks to the ref for a well managed game despite those difficult conditions
Saturday’s kickoff was touch and go due to the weather. Despite the rain only slowing down, the Turf City Pitch 1 worked its magic and managed to drain in time to meet the delayed start deadline. With a few players away due to travel (Tinks again!!!!) and injury (Ruby again!!!!!), Sherlock was available to play and it was great to welcome Roycey back into the squad along with a debut for Pheonix aka Danube. OG had a strong squad in place and made a great start after 5 minutes when a ball over the top found their left back in a 1 on 1 position and he managed to slot home from 8 yards. 1TM thought we had a strong case for offside but it was waved away. 1-0. Despite having greater possession, OG continued to be a threat and were nearly 2-0 up but their number 10’s effort hit the post and was cleared by Frando. With no water break, we had to sort ourselves out on the pitch, and we got back into the game on 35 minutes. Another great free kick delivery from Rat Rig was met with a towering header from Didge that left OG GK Chris with no chance. From there, 1TM continued to press and created good chances, but Chris was in excellent form and made 3 fantastic saves to deny us taking the lead. Thankfully, on 37 minutes, we were able to go into the break a goal up after good wide play from Snail found Duplo and his low cross was met by Sharples at the far post with a simple finish. 2-1 It was 3-1 after 61 minutes when Sharples was threaded into a 1v1 chance by Frando and made no mistake with a trademark finish. Our 4th came after Rat Rig made a switch to the right and the Assist King lofted a ball to Sharples who controlled the ball well and his effort was deflected into the goal. They all count! On 71 minutes, we were 5-1 up after Frando powered in a great header after a superb corner delivery by Roycey. Credit to OG, who didn’t give up, and manage to score a consolation goal when the ball was played through the 1TM defence and the forwards effort was initially saved by POB but couldn’t be cleared and was finished at the second attempt. 5-2. There was still time for 1TM to score again as the lively Danube forced another great save from Chris. Sharples’ resulting corner found Danube unmarked in the box and he finished well. 6-2 and then full time. Thanks to OG for a competitive fixture and to Alex and his team for managing the game. Thanks to Boggy and Mrs Sherlock for coming down to support. OG MOM Chris MOM Sherlock DOD Rat Rig
