Hibs had to settle for a point on a day when we should have maintained a clean-sheet and taken a couple of gilt-edged chances. Gaelic seemed to be missing a few regulars as Hibs were in the opening game of the season, when we lost comfortably. Hibs took control of the game early and when one long ball got us in on goal, it seemed wise to try it again and again. Unfortunately, Julian steered his shot wide with just the keeper to beat as Maayan found him with a perfect through ball. Hibs took the lead through Sergio as he ran on to Joey's through ball. Jack and Fenners were questioning the wisdom of Joey's 'direct' forward pass from left-back, but Sergio was happy tp receive it and lift the pass over Gaelic's keeper and make it 1-0 and get his sixth of the season. Gaelic struggled to mount much in the way of threat, but at 1-0 at HT it was still tight. Maayan continued to display his passing range and put Dan through one-on-one, but an excellent toe deflection by the keeper diverted the ball to safety. The bench were fearing that Gaelic just needed one set-piece to get a look in and it happened 15 minutes into the half. A lofted free-kick looked to be Bill's ball, but a spill and penalty box pin-ball resulted in an equaliser. Hibs didn't react particular well and it is something to work on. A couple more chances came and went with Jack heading over 6 yards out and shots flying wide, but it wasn't to be and fair play to Gaelic. The end of our trilogy with Gaelic finished W1, D1, L1 and all the best to them.
After releasing the Alibaba weather balloons, we had expected Jimmy Cranky to emerge dishevelled, electric guitar in hand. But no Thunderstruck this Saturday. So we had to brave it with 11 lads just making kickoff. No inquests into the sake ski trip or ACL graveyard with about 15 physios across the club because the Gaelic Lions squad fronted up with no less than five Cosmo debuts. Was looking like a long day as Hibs runners from midfield and dinking over the top eventually paid off. The number 10 who was the most dangerous player on the park all day broke the line and first time dinked over the on rushing Shailer. Lovely finish, lad. To say Hibs bossed the ball in the first quarter would be an understatement. We had been resolute though and we just had to tweak a little and grow in confidence. Which we did. 1-0 half time; still in it. Second half was a much more even contest and as we stuck at it with less possession we were getting the better chances. We had talked at half time about gambling at corners. With none forthcoming Liam started launching his vertical crosses from half way causing panic. And after some pinball Conor on his debut slotted home from 10 yards. We could've even won it which would have been a bit unfair but that's football, and glad my raindance at 330 was completely ineffective after two starters called in with the flu. Shailer was imperious in goal today. While he only had one save to make other than the goal (no chance for any keeper), he ruled his box. Like a weeping Alexander the Great…and Dyno was no sheep today pulling together his men…for the history buffs…much like the way of the result of this battle. Until the next one, Hibs. Thank you for the game.
