Typical Gaelic & SFC Battle

SFC knew going into the match that Lions would be a formidable opponent. They don't give anything away and make you scrap for every point. And they didn't disappoint. Unfortunately on the day SFC couldn't find our tempo and flow and split the points with Lions in a well deserved result. It took us too long to find our feet and even though we finally managed a good spell of football in the second half in the build up to our goal, we ultimately could not build on it and find the consistency necessary to win. Credit to Lions for showing just how competitive our Cosmo league is this season as any team can win against any opponent on the day. Lions kept fighting and fighting until they found their moment and capitalized. The match ended in a fair 1-1 draw played under good spirit. Always a pleasure and a challenge to line up against Gaelic and we look forward to the next match day.

Axe Factor

From failing to crash the charity bash to mortification of ordering beer at the Halal restaurant, Annie Lennox and the Eurythmics welcomed us with open arms at the empty Axe Factor warehouse for the last Japanese bottled beers left at Turf City. Everything went to plan, most notably the putrid away kit which had been stewing since Christmas. Pints were well earned for our men today. Stood up and went toe to toe with SFC. Shaded a first half where we’d had the ball in the net but offside, some very close scrambles from panic in the mixer and a free header from Daiki that was well saved, almost a réplica of his debut goal. SFC limited to long balls and switching play to their left back who forced a yellow and dangerous free kick opportunity, and just provided a constant threat although Daire’s third lung came in handy to keep him in check at times. Second half SFC gradually grew into the game but chances remained limited for both sides. Until a cracking move with twenty five to go down the right saw them take the lead. Quality from their right back. And so SFC grew in confidence and closed the game out. …you’d think right…until 7 minutes to go and we switch up and there’s big Sean Flanagan smashing it on the half volley after captain chaos Ronan O’Boyle does his thing (again). Queue real backs to the wall finale. And a fair 1-1 after ninety. Performance epitomised by Dom Marwood who orchestrated and masterminded the midfield battle. Thanks for the battle SFC. Game was played in good spirits. And then there was the epilogue with Robbie “Hammer” O’Toole on FaceTime after going home and accepting the Everton job.
