This One Counted

After just missing out on 3 points last Saturday by a couple of minutes (lightning) Hibs wanted to bag the points this time. Hibs knew they would be in for a much tougher test than the last time the two sides matched up and it proved to be the case and the first half ended 0-0. It wasn’t a half without event and Max, sporting a go-faster trim, and revitalised by a Julio-length warm-up, dug a shot out that slammed into the post. Later there was a goal disallowed and GSAS’s keeper was playing superbly. Bill had his goal threatened a couple of times too but it stayed goalless. The subs, Sergio and Bolts, made big impacts in the game. Sergio replaced live-wire, Vasco, and immediately looked threatening. He looked certain to score a deserved goal but the ‘keeper pulled off a stunning save. Hibs kept pushing and Bolts broke the deadlock after a Julio cutback was nicely cut across the keeper into the far corner. The big man then had a flamboyant spell unleashing a bag of tricks and almost kicking himself in the face with an audacious over-head kick attempt. Will had a 25 yard free-kick scrubbed off last week, but he scored a beauty under the lights to give Hibs a cushion. Julio got his sixth of the season and the first in a long time with his head as a cross deflected into his path. Bill stood firm and got a clean-sheet and Hibs created a few more promising moments but it wound up 3-0. Hopefully GSAS get some better luck with injuries in the second half of the season.

Another GSAS loss with wrinkly defense and crumbling harmstrings

A cool Friday night at The Cage saw GSAS start well keeping a good shape for most of the first half, but Hibs found space around the box and provoked a handful of truly world class saves from Nicolas, the new man in goal. GSAS made a couple of half-chances on the counter but 0-0 was looking like a good score at half time for the team in white. The second half started competitively with GSAS putting on more attacking pressure, however the venerable GSAS defence developed a few wrinkles about midway through the half, resulting in a 1-0 opener for Hibs. The fight went on but a cynical foul resulted in a free kick in a promising position for Hibs who went on to convert it with pinpoint accuracy. GSAS hopes crumbled faster than Julian’s hamstrings as Hibs broke through almost immediately after the restart, slotting away a third and putting any hopes of a comeback out of reach. To the lads’ credit GSAS continued to press for the remainder of the game, and made some good chances including a save tipped onto the bar, but Hibs saw the game out with a clean sheet. 3-0 was well deserved on both sides. Best of luck to Hibs for the remainder of the season.
