Vikings produced a superb first 60 min of football to take control of this quarter final which ultimately lead them to victory over a spirited Gaelic. Some of the football displayed by the Danes was the best they have produced in a number of years, fluid throughout the middle, clinical up top and solid at the back. The game was still in it's infancy, much like our attacking trio, when Maahin fired in a cross which bounced up and hit the hand of a central defender - ref had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Domino, who provided a masterclass all afternoon, stepped up and made no mistake. Vikings doubled the lead after the 20 min mark when Tjalfe was the fortunate recipient of a breaking ball, his speedy dribble and smart finish was reward for our bright start. On 30 min Jules bravely stuck his head in where it hurts and sent us further ahead, much to the delight of the gathering Viking support. Gaelic continually tried to get back into the game but many of their attacks were broken down and ended up with them being counter attacked. They did have a glimpse of a hope after a nice move resulted in a header clipping the bar. 3-0 was the score at the half time. The second half started in much the same way as the first and for the first 10 min some of the one touch play on show was lovely to see, one particular move involved 7 players and only a fine save from the keeper denied another goal. Jules did add a second shortly after and the game had all but gone for Gaelic. Other teams would have self capitulated at this point but not the boys in green, they upped their game and produced a final 35 min of football that was as difficult as we have played against this term. The attitude was spot on and the desire not to give up was impressive. Time after time they broke forward and got a shot away on goal, finally being rewarded when a miss hit clearance was hammered in by young gun Iskander. We managed to play out the final 15 min without conceding further and will now face the winners of OG v SFC for the right to play in the final. Thanks to the officials for turning out and doing your stuff! To Gaelic, we look forward to another battle with you in the coming weeks!
