A miserable end to the year for us. It was always going to be tough with a very much depleted (depleted is an understatement) squad. Thanks James for helping us (hope you enjoyed your first 'soccer' game). Samba visiting helped us out as well, despite arriving to the pitch 2 min before kick off. But a positive and historic event: 14 year old Laurent Brutsch (son of the legendary Brutsch) coming on in the 2nd half.... Not much to say about the match, and was indeed a miserable end to the year. No one would have thought that - a season had started with so much optimism and promise. Results didn't come despite scoring goals/ performing well and turning point was definitely the Nippon game.... Downhill from there. Sure we can blame our injuries, ref's decisions in this first half of the season (first goal hotspurs very much offside), the weather, or whatever but in the end we were not united enough on the pitch to pull through this patch. We need to learn to better react against verbal abuse and provocations (probably counting for half of our points on the top of the disciplinary table). Then again we are here to play football not get hurled with vulgarities and insults for 1.5 hours. Perhaps something for the League to pick up on next season (following the ref campaign): "respecting opponents". Back to the drawing board and a team dinner on Friday for self- reflection. Hope we can rekindle the 2nd half of the season ! Looking forward to some returning players as well..... Watch this space !
When you consider that Hotspurs were languishing at the foot of the table on a negative points haul after five games, a 13-point return from six matches leading into the Christmas break has to be deemed a remarkable turnaround. Goals from Ali Roseburgh, Lionel Kong, James Keane, Guy Turton and Aaron Jones secured the latest victory - a one-sided triumph over the Swiss. Looking ahead to the new year, there's no reason why Hotspurs can't aim for a fourth place finish and, with a bit of luck, a successful run in the Plate.
