Disappointing result against our bogey team over the past few years. We never play well but never play badly either but seems to always lack the little extra to get points from the Hibs. Saturday was no different. A close first half that saw little chances apart from the one for Hibs in the opening minutes. Game was constantly stopped every 15seconds for light free kicks drastically reducing the intensity and pace of the game. Both team had about 1 or 2 chances but either a lack in the last touch or pass prevented to make anything happen. Second half was not better. Hibs capitalizing on their very well positioned back 6 leave no spaces for our attack. Ultimately Hibs had the opener from a lost ball in our 40m. A quick pass to the right wing, a low cross for an easy tap in. 1-0 Hibs. Minutes later OG was awarded a pen on Kike, which was well saved by Hibs' keeper. OG tried to player higher in the last 15min leave loads of space at the back for counter attacks. Hibs could have sealed the result but some good last man defending kept our hopes alive. In the dying minute Inaki managed to found Remi in the box who chipped the ball over the running keeper that took everything on his way out hitting Remi in the air. As the ball hits the post we all expected a 2nd penalty to be award on what looked like a remake of Schumacher - Battiston remake of 82. But no penalty. "It was a penalty but since, I was not sure about the first one so I did not whistle this one". You cannot really argue with that.... All in all a poor performance from OG. Way too many individual mistake made to keep the game flowing and put Hibs under more pressure. On the other side, Hibs, kept a impressive, solid and well organized back 6 and capitalized on this stability to hit us on the break. Well done to them.
Hibs kept their good run of results going with a 1-0 win over OGS on Saturday with Tom Phillips’ goal the difference in an eventful game. OGS sat 2nd in the table and were averaging 3 goals a game going into the fixture, but Hibs now boast the meanest defence in the league with this shut-out, but it took some brilliance from Colin and a kind, firm, Turf City bounce to get there. Hibs almost had the dream start when Dan turned his man and spotted a returning Buffy driving into the box, but Buff uncharacteristically dragged his shot past the far post. OGS were surprisingly direct and but for a heavy touch, would have been one-on-one. The home side were very clever earning free-kicks and Kike’s radar seemed off for a change. OGS’ number 10 showed some typically delightful touches but Col wasn’t tested apart from when sweeping up. Hibs got into some very promising positions, but nothing clear-cut stood out. HT 0-0 Hibs introduces the first of their five subs at the break. Young Dan Hanson came into midfield and he immediately made an impact. A couple of lovely turns sprung attacks and Hibs looked the more likely scorers. The goal came from more excellent midfield play from Knotty who rolled Thorin into the channel and his cross was neatly finished by Tom. There was blood when Ous and Boycey crashed heads together as both sides continued to compete for everything. Kike responded for OGS with a little ‘feint party’ that had the Hibs defenders swarming 12 yards out. He dangled his legs and made sure Nick made contact and a spot-kick was awarded. Colin was not to be beaten though and he got two hands to the shot and Ous blazed over the rebound. Hibs continued to push on and Dan had an effort cleared off the line and later got cleaned out by the last man with a last-ditch tackle. Tom should have had a penalty when he drew the defender and was then felled. Tom then volleyed some abuse at his own bench when a high Colin kick saw him through on goal but he’d lost his bearings and he softly kissed the ball to the keeper. “Tell me what aye can do man, why aye like.” He seemed nailed on to win DOTD and Hibs were comfortable but Lippy thought he’d make it interesting by getting his first career red card for two quick bookings within 10 minutes of coming on. Harsh. Two successive DOTD wins is impressive though in a total of 40 minutes of football. The last chance came to Remi when he beat Col to the ball and flicked it goalwards but not for the first time at Turf City a lobbed finish bounced weirdly and hit the post and Hibs survived. Great game and fine margins, but Hibs roll on... to another week off. MoM was Kike for OGS.
