Desmond @ Dempsey

Hotspurs were looking to kick on the cup after starting 2020 with a couple of decent performances. A good break over CNY meant that we were able to put together a strong squad of 15 with quality on and off the bench. Casuals were the opponents who know Hotspurs know better than any side given the fact that they train together every Wednesday… the same could be said for Hotspurs if more than 6 of their players could turn up to training! Having dominated the early stages of the game, with a few great chances, as well as Jack Skinner missing an open goal (although not the worst miss of the game) – Casuals slowly came back into the game and took a shock lead after their goalscorer got the ball down, took it past his player and placed a great finish into the bottom corner. Hotspurs failed to react to this – and could arguably count themselves lucky to go in at HT at only one down. Changes were made at the break – with some quality and energy added from the bench – and inspirational words from JK. Within 15 minutes Hotspurs found themselves 2-1 up and looking comfortable again thanks to two smart finishes from Ali Roseburgh and Dan Krystek. In truth the game should have been wrapped up at this point with Hotspurs having more chances but failing to take them. With the clock ticking though, Casuals took advantage of Hotspurs dropping deep in the Demspey sweatbox. Step up the Dan Blizarian lookalike centre half who hit a 25 yard strike into the top corner which the goalkeeper could not stop. With the game looking like ending in a draw after that last minute equaliser – there was still time for the miss of the game as Hotspurs pacey winger, who for the sake of his pride shall not be named – produced the miss of the season as he took advantage of a goalkeeping error only to run straight through on a wide open goal and hit the post. Onto the next one!
