Positives in defeat for Hotspurs

A tough day at Turf City for Hotspurs against the reigning league champions. Unfortunately, after putting in another solid, hard-fought performance, they were ultimately on the wrong end of the scoreline once again. The game was goalless for the first 20 minutes; Rangers probing with their strong frontline, while Hotspurs stayed strong and looked to hit on the counter. The first goal was a worldy from the in-form Sharples – rattled in off the bar shortly after the drinks break. Hotspurs were able to bounce back shortly afterwards, however, when Lawro cooly converted a penalty after Lionel Kong had been bundled over in the box. Rangers scored a header from close range shortly before the half-time break, and extended their lead with two more goals in the second half. Despite some decent football going forward from Hotspurs in that second period, they weren't able to find any more goals, and it finished 4-1 to Rangers.

Unbeaten run goes on

Rangers went into this game looking to extend their unbeaten league run into an 11th month. Elliot took his place between the sticks as a last minute scramble for a reserve keeper failed but he was quiet in the opening exchanges with Rangers looking to impose themselves on the game. It was that man Sharples that woke the game from its slumber with a long ranger off the underside of the bar. Our lead didn't last long however as hotspurs deservedly got an equaliser from a penalty. Rangers retook the lead with a great team move that was started by Nick and finished by Paddy. The rest of the game was an arm wrestle until Rangers scored two late goals, one apiece from Salvo and Sharples to wrap up the 3 points. Solid but unspectacular again from the boys in green. Good luck to spurs for the rest of the season, by no means a bottle of the table team
