SFC start Cosmo campaign with strong win

Singapore Football Club(SFC) scored six goals to kick off their Cosmo League season, on Saturday. Playing at their new home, the pristine GEMS World Academy, SFC put in a convincing performance to defeat Gaelic Lions 6-0. Having had a strong pre-season programme, competition for starting place places was in strong evidence for the Beauty Queens. Anthony Garreau and Tim Walter started strongly in midfield with an attacking triumvirate of Duric, Shotton, and Hutcheon always posing a threat upfront. Having controlled large parts of the first 20minutes, SFC finally took the lead. Aleks Duric scoring with a well-taken finish to make it 1-0. The second goal came from SFC’s Mr. Reliable, Jahan Rezai. Waltzing in from the left flank, the SFC team Captain calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net. The scoreline read 2-0 at the break, but not before Gaelic had fought back hard and the Referee has accidentally shown the wrong coloured card to Andrew Hutcheon. The half time combination of rehydration and some reassuring words, from the dynamic duo of Mo Yasin and Adam Bowden, meant SFC rediscovered their earlier passing tempo. Garreau again shone in midfield; linking play up neatly and generally being at the heart of everything for SFC as Liam Shotton scored to make it 3-0. The third goal was the prompt for the SFC management team to start ringing the changes. Saatwik Kaul immediately made an impact, with almost his first touch, as he put Liam Shotton in for his second goal and SFC’s fourth. Meanwhile, Mike Hemmingway also started to make his presence felt up front, coming on for the hardworking Duric. The final introductions of Rob Benson and Matt McCole then started to stretch some tired Gaelic legs. Both players consistently asking questions, before Benson’s cross was headed in by Kaul. 5-0. Gaelic continued to compete until the end, as is the hallmark of all their teams. Brett coming off the bench for the Lions to cause some problems late on for the SFC defence. The final moment of the match went to Tim Walter. The translucent Teuton wrong-footed Gaelic’s unsuspecting, defensive wall with a well-struck free-kick. The ball cannoned in off an errant foot, to leave the Cosmo League’s newly founded dubious goals panel to review who gains the final credit. Thank you to Gaelic for a well-contested game in very hot conditions. Best of luck with the rest of your Cosmo season ahead.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.....

*Cue dramatic orchestral music* Pam wakes up, looks around puzzled and walks into the bathroom, opens the shower door and the Gaelic Lions very own Bobby Ewing stares back at her and says the immortal line ‘Good morning!’ After going missing for a season the scriptwriters had no other option but to write him back in as the series was losing popularity, I mean you can’t lose Bobby and expect things to be the same! A little ‘Dallas’-based analogy there to kick-off the season. I mean who doesn’t like Dallas FFS! It was a show that was on in the 80’s before most of you were bor….. OK FORGET IT. A very new look Gaelic Lions took to the field on Sat at the very nice GEMS Academy in Thailand to take on SFC in their first ever Cosmo encounter since last season. Big thanks to the Cat for helping out in nets after we didn’t have a goalkeeper which is always a great place to be when you are about to play SFC in their first ever Cosmo encounter since last season. Lions lined-up with Lloydy at right back, with Matt McCole just ahead of hi….. Oh hang on, that was last year. Lions lined-up with Kaz at RB, Churchie and Butters and Handsome James Devane at LB, with two new lads Dom and Andy in the middle of the park with some other players as well, like Petesy. It was all going swimmingly until SFC scored 6 goals, which always puts a bit of a dampener on proceedings but hey ho. Fearsome Al and Hutchy compared handbags in the middle of the park for a few minutes which was weird because Hutchy had earlier received a red AND a yellow card at the same time from Brad but he just dominated the ref by simply refusing to leave the pitch. Wouldn’t have happened with Segar in charge, THAT’S FOR SURE. A bad start for the Lions but there is a lot of games to go in this league and we plan to win them all so there. In fairness, it was a proper beating so kudos to Dom and the lads, well played. MOM for the Lions was Andy, with special mention to Kaz who had his hands full all day and for SFC - Shotton. Well played. We go again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCEjeTb1rrs
