Match Review: SCC Firsts vs Hotspurs FC

SCC were looking forward to playing against a Hotspurs side that hadn’t started the season well, but always a team that gives us a very competitive game. This game was no different. The match kick off was delayed as the SCC manager didn’t realise that he had to match the strip number to the player in the team sheet. Slightly worrying considering this is the 6th game of the season. SCC started the game relatively well creating numerous chances with Dom and Duric combining well, Rossco putting in dangerous balls in from the right and Liam causing problems with his direct running on the left. Our lead was deserved when Duric tested the GK from 25 yards out who could only parry to the onrushing Dom who finished well in the corner. Hotspurs were soon level when their forward headed the ball onto his unmarked team mate who finished easily into the back of the net. SCC again took the lead with Liam beating his marker before firing in off the post from a tight angle. Hotspurs were level again in similar circumstances to their first goal. A header found an unmarked Hotspurs player who finished well into the corner of the net. It looked like both teams would be level at half time before Lund with his new streamline hairdo burst down the right, beating two defenders before cutting the ball back to Duric who finished to make the game 3-2 at half time. The second half started with a new formation from SCC who were keen to have better control of the ball. This did happen but the attacking threat from SCC was also decreased. The formation changed however look to have paid off when Dom made it 4-2. Holding the ball up well in the box before finishing into the corner. The game was surely over with 25 minutes left to play. Hotspurs had other ideas when they made it 4-3 with 5 minutes left. The last 5 minutes could have resulted in 3 goals each for both teams. Defending wasn’t important anymore, let’s just score goals to keep the crowd of zero entertained. SCC deserved their victory over the 90mins but had too many nervous moments near the end of the game. A performance that needs to improve dramatically if we plan on holding any silverware come May. MOM SCC – Dom for two important goals again. MOM HOTSPURS – Ali Roseburgh from two well taken goals.

Hotspurs denied in Dempsey thriller

An end-to-end match full of goals at Dempsey on Saturday afternoon, which really could have gone either way. BHFC started well and were unlucky to concede after about 15 minutes when the SCC striker was on hand to tap in a rebound after the initial shot was saved by Martyn. BHFC were able to equalise shortly afterwards however- a throw-in headed on across the goalmouth by the dominant Nick K for Greene to tap in. The action continued at both ends, but it was SCC who again broke the deadlock with a finish at the near post following a threatening run down the left-wing. BHFC were quick to respond however- Nick K again flicking on from a throw-in, and Ali R firing in a delightful first-time volley into the far top corner. SCC hit back again on the stroke of half-time with a smart finish into the bottom corner after a cross from the right, and were first to score in the second half with a shot from just inside the box- extended their lead to 2 goals. There was late drama however as BHFC made it 4-3 with 5 minutes to play- Pete putting a great ball in from the right for another quality Ali R finish into the bottom corner- and they continued to pile on the pressure until the final whistle. Ultimately though it was SCC who held on to take the win.
