In an entertinaing game, SCC lacked that little but of something special to break down a resolute Hotspurs. SCC started the game by moving the ball well, creating some half decent chances and restricting Hotspurs to very little in our half. We didn’t find the back of the net in the first half but came in at half time largely satisfied with a first half in which we dominated possession, moved the ball with a good tempo and pressed with a high intensity to quickly regain possession wherever we lost it. We spoke at half time about a few specifics of our execution that needed to improve in the second half In order for us to convert our superior possesion into goals. And, the breakthrough we sought was soon to follow. After a lovely run from the inside channel, a resurgent Matt Hulen combined well with Andy Hutcheon and finding himself through on goal slotted the ball neatly past the keeper and into the bottom right corner of the net. Pushing on, SCC felt we could score more but to their credit Hotspurs quickly struck back with a superb individual effort from young JD to level the score at 1-1. Not long after, Mike Hemingway, through on goal after a lovely spell of possession, lobbed the ‘keeper with the deftest of touches to put SCC back in the lead. But once again the lead was short lived as Hotspurs struck back through a scramble in the box following a corner. With 20 minutes left, we continued to press but didn’t force enough saves from the ‘keeper to seal the win and despite an excellent appeal for a penalty in the dying minutes, 2-2 was it how it ended. Thank you Hotspurs for a competitive game. We wish you well for the rest of the season.
