Lions tame timid Spurs

otspurs were in high spirits off the back of their tidy 1-0 victory over high-flying Vikings last weekend, and turned up this weekend hoping to get a positive result against the Irish- something which has eluded them all too often in recent meetings. Despite Tommy Greene's men setting out with a clear game plan of 'getting stuck into' their opponents, it was without a doubt Gaelic Lions who started the stronger of the two sides- dictating the play and taking advantage of wasteful possession and soft errors by Hotspurs. It was no surprise therefore that BHFC found themselves 2-0 down at the drinks break with a lot of soul searching to do. 2-0 down to two ridiculously good strikes from outside the box by O'Reilly- both of which had left keeper Matt Shoult without a chance- but deservedly 2-0 down nonetheless. Hotspurs did turn up after the drinks break- putting far more pressure on the opposition, and finding a way back into the game through the unlikely right boot of Hine- finding himself unmarked at the back post from captain Lawro's driven corner. The second half was a far more even affair- both sides with several chances apiece- but Lions extended their lead via a sloppy goal from a corner. Despite Hine bagging an even more unlikely second of the game and a late push from Hotspurs, it was the boys in green who came away victorious as the game finished 3-2. A couple of weeks off now for Hotspurs to regroup and get back to winning ways, as they return to the League against the Germans on Saturday 4th February.

Time, as we all know off by heart, is the indefinite continued progress of existence and events that occur in apparently irreversible succession from the past through the present to the future. Well, I have to admit I didn't know that - I had to get Ballsy to explain it but apparently it's true. One thing you can definitely say about time is that you can't stop it (the bastard) and so it came to pass when 2016 ended and JUST LIKE THAT 2017 kicked into action! Now as we also all know, it only took one second for the years to move from one to another, one measly unit of time, a minuscule time interval (used as a standard way of measuring or expressing duration, in this case just 0.016666 of an hour) but yet upon that moment the world experienced a monumental amount of change and I am not talking about my new jetpack getting delivered by drone, I am talking about British Hotspurs and their newly found sobriety. I made a call to all of our Cosmo brethren to pray for the Hotspurs and our prayers were answered. You see, measuring things by quantifying rates of change of quantities in material reality or in the conscious experience is one thing, but don't discount the invocation or act that seeks to activate a rapport with an object of worship through deliberate communication. THAT SHIT WORKS AS WELL. The Lions lined up to face the Hotspurs without even the faintest whiff of cheaply sold, past it's sell-by-date Gordon's on the breaths of the newly inspired previously chronic alcoholic Hotspurs and this Lazarus-like return from near death was the catalyst for a bloody good game of football. As well as the miracle of the Hotspurs redemption, came another 2017 phenomenon, it is the tale of Brian O'Reilly O'Reilly and how a month of debauchery has given him a new super power - I call it WTF CANNON NEW YEAR BLASTER LEG. The Lions set the tone for the second half of the season with a blistering opening to this game culminating in O'Reilly O'Reilly hitting two absolute worldlys before the water break to see the Lions take a well deserved 2-0 lead. As tends to happen with the Lions, the break allowed us to regroup and plan conceding a soft goal in the next couple of minutes (HAH!! CLASSIC!!) when Tom nipped in behind at a corner to bring the deficit back to one goal at HT. The second half was much more even with Hotspurs abstemiousness there for all to see as they matched the Lions for large periods of the second half before Take me to Churchie nipped in at a corner to scab his first goal for the Lions and restore order to 3-1. Tom (WTF?) bagged another for the Hotspurs taking his tally to 2 goals in one game where his previous best was only two kicks in one game in 2003. The Lions held out and bagged the three points giving a nice warm fuzzy feeling going into this week's extremely tough game against the 12 players of Vikings, who shall no doubt once again be playing with two goalkeepers, one of whom plays for us. MOM for the Lions goes to Stevie, which is tough on Brian O'Reilly O'Reilly, I get that but Stevie is better looking and MOM for the Hotspurs goes to Tom who scored two goals and that will get you MOM in any game, I would say. Ahem.
