Good Win

A nice penultimate game of the season, with a 4-1 win over a solid Swiss side. Special mention to Justin "fox-in-the-box" Schoeltens for an excellent brace. Thank you to the Swiss for a well-fought game as always.

Curtains down

A very disappointing season for Swiss FC came to an end on Saturday. The pool of committed senior players was too small, so we had to rely increasingly on young players. Against Hotspurs, we had 8 players below 20 years of age in the starting line-up. The attitude of the young players throughout the campaign was absolutely brilliant. We lost game after game, but they never gave up. We finally got a few points towards the end of the season, which was just reward for their persistence. In the final game against Hotspurs we were 2 goals down inside 9 minutes. Hotspurs were extremely efficient in the first half scoring 4 times from probably 6 chances. At the other end, we created half chances and a couple of times could have pulled the trigger, bur we hesitated. Too often, the last ball was not good enough. The coach set the team the target to win the second half. And whatever it was, the second half was very different. We largely dominated proceedings, kept a very high line and probably had 70% of the ball. But again we were not clinical enough in front of goal, so Alec Pizzo's beautiful strike, nicely set up by Hamza, was the only reward. But we kept a clean sheet at the other end, Lucas making some good saves. The final result was 4:1 Hotspurs, deserved based on the first half. Swiss FC will now have to consider what next. Clearly, a season like this one is not something we want to repeat. It was not for lack of trying, or attitude. The Cosmo League has become so strong that even with talented and willing young players it is difficult to keep up. It was great to have these youngsters in the squad, but they now move on to university, so we would have to start from scratch again. I would like to thank all the players who have contributed one way or another this year, the (few) supporters who came out to watch us and of course the league committee to make this season a smooth one. I know how much work goes into it. Last, but not least, a big thank you to all the match officials.
