Road to Dempsey

GAS fielded a strong team to start their successful defense of the Plate on the back of couple of losses in the league. Swiss came into the game with a lot of determination and good quality in midfield. GAS created couple of half decent chances from free kicks through Pipo and Basti came really close fro great cross from Quirin. Swiss responded with couple of threats on their own and looked dangerous early. After aroudn 15 mins Micha collected the ball in the final third, dribbled past couple of challenges and let fly from over 20 meters. The ball sailed over the keeper in to the far corner, giving GAS comfortable lead and calming some nerves. Second goal came shortly after with Micha playing 1-2 with Dee, getting in behind and showing great composure finishing with power and precision across the goalkeeper. Basti then redeemed himself from from a long ball over the top beating the offside trap and finishing off the post, no chance for the Swiss young keeper. GAS continued to dominate, and soon created a beautiful goal from the corner. The ball was played back to Quirin who crossed it into the box with Pipo unmarked going for diving header in Pipo Inzaghi style. Swiss got one back from strong run on the left and good finish. Before the half time Micha got his hat-trick, from Basti's ball over the top, beating the offside trap, getting past the keeper to finish in to the empty net. Second half started slower, with both sides not creating chances at first. GAS then broke on the right, and sub Ogu delivered a perfect ball between Swiss defence and the keeper. French debutant Arnold scuffed his effort, but ball floated towards Jan who headed the ball of the defender to make it 6-1. With such margin GAS took the foot of the pedal and allowed Swiss to create few chances. First, stand in keeper Felipe came of his line quickly to save 1-on-1, and later had to tip the ball over the top from a good free kick. Nevertheless Swiss finally scored their second goal, when their best player collected the ball around 25-30 meters and unleashed a rocket into the far top corner with Felipe beaten. Last 20 minutes saw no clear chances for both teams. GAS is happy to get the win and advance to the semifinals of the plate. We thank Swiss for the good game of football and wish luck for the rest of the season.

A lesson in German efficiency

Two unexpected no-shows forced the Swiss to reshuffle the line-up at 2.50 pm. Not ideal, but nobody could tell, as the Swiss came out all guns blazing. The first 15 minutes were all Swiss, with three decent chances, but nothing to show for. The Germans came close to the Swiss box for the first time on 17 minutes and Michael let fly from 20 meters and saw the ball sailing over Felix into the far corner. And with the second shot on goal on 23 minutes it was 2:0 Germans. And, yes, you guessed it, the third shot on goal on 26 minutes made it 3:0. Swiss heads dropped for a while, which was not helped by a further goal. Andrew then went onto an electric run and Sebastian finished off the move confidently. 4:1. Germans scored another one before the break, when the collective analysis of the Swiss team was that three Germans were offside. The linesman disagreed. Disappointment at the break, particularly after such a bright start. The second half was even, with the highlight clearly Gabriel's goal of the day: a screamer from 25 meters into the top corner. As so often this season, we can't put in a shift for 90 minutes. A very good first 20 minutes, and a good second half is not enough. We are having too often "10 minutes of madness", where we concede three goals, and that usually means game over. But we will not give up, we will get points soon!
