The Winner Takes It All

Friday night lights in the Cosmo Cup was a classic cup tie. This was a high energy and entertaining game with both sides going "Head Over Heels" for the win. "When All is Said and Done", neither team deserved to lose but the game was eventually decided in an ABBA penalty shoot out which was expertly executed by the match officials. Gaulois striker Hugo opened the scoring with a powerful header from a corner, with slack defending from Latini to blame. "Mamma Mia" we were one nil down after a fairly even match. Half time 1-0. In to the 2nd half Remi crashed his shot against the Latini bar and it was a turning point, as soon after Latini equalized after a good turn and shot from Pep, who said at half time "Take a Chance on Me" as he was carrying an injury. As soon as the celebrations were over Pep was replaced as his match was done. With our tails up our "Super Trouper" Rory scored a brilliant left footed goal in to the top of the net from the edge of the box, we were fortuitously leading for the first time in the game. "Voules vous" a Gaulois equalizer? Absolutely was their response, a cross field ball from Latini was intercepted by Hugo who ran through and finished. FT 2-2 and in to extra time. "Knowing me Knowing you", Remi had to score against his former club and friends. One minute in to ET Remi finally got his goal from a poor Latini clearance. Latini sent out one final "S.O.S." and Rory equalised from close range to take the match to penalties and that little closer to midnight. In true English style, given we mainly had English players on the pitch we lost the ABBA shoot out 8-7. We had a chance to win the shoot out after the 15th penalty on the night hit the bar from Gaulois, all previous were expertly dispatched. After we failed to score ourselves you sensed the match was "Slipping Through My Fingers". Congrats to Gaulois for a great game, from start to finish it was a good contest, and everyone on the pitch controlled their emotions for a pleasant change. "The Winner Takes it All" and on the night it was the French. Gaulois MoM : Remi Tache Latini MoM: Yak DOD: Abdul Thanks to Mrs TARD and Tommy S for coming down to support Next game Hibs at Home

Portugal style

Here we are, in semi of the Cosmo cup without wining a single game during the normal time with 2 wins on penalty shoot out. A great football display on Friday night between 2 teams who decided to play an open game for 90min and more. It was such an enjoyable night that we all decided to extend it for an extra 20min and then for another 18 penalty shoots. Game was quite even overall, even though during the first 50min, it was mostly OG which was dangerous. At numerous occasions we managed to trigger some nice shoots from Hugo (le maigre), Hugo (le bon), Remi or even Guillaume and eventually broke the lock around the 25th min mark, from corner headed into the top corner of the goal by Hugo (le bon). We could have double the mark before half time but Latini standed strong and eventually also created a brace of chances to level up before half time. Second half, OG started the pay all the effort made in the 1st half, and Latini started to take control of the possession of the ball. Despite that, we were again the more dangerous for the first 10min, especially with a strike on the cross bar that left POB quite happy to take the rebound. Latini were still in the game and were getting more and more dangerous. Eventually they leveled up, from poor clearance. Ball end up twice on Pep at the entrance of the box before he could control it and volley it into the opposite bottom corner after the ball had rebounded 3 times on the floor. Chris surprised by the shoot could only run after the ball and catch it behind the line. Minutes later Latini got a second goal they deserved after a quick throw in played on the left wing. Ball was well protected by Dani and ended up on Lego that curves the ball just under the crossbar in one touch just outside the box. OG reacted well with an equalizer minutes after thanks to a nice through ball from Ouss that found Hugo (le bon) between 2 defenders with a lot left to do. He managed to handle the come back from the defender and calmly finish his 1vs1 with POB. In the last 10min both team had their chances but none could be converted leading to an extra 2x10min. Extra time started well with Remi giving the lead to OG after a missed clearance from Latinis defense. Again minutes later Leo released a nice ball between 2 defenders for Latinis striker to beat Chris. The rest of the extra time was very open, with both team getting exhausted and spaces opening up a bit everywhere on the pitch. Nobody could take the lead and once again for OG, penalty shoot out. Penalties were really well taken with a 100% accuracy until the 7th taker from OG. Germain's short was a bit to low on his knee which lead him to shoot on the cross bar. Our only hope was that Chris makes something special happen, which he did twice in a row, with 2 penalties saved giving us a match ball. Max T (alias Tortuga) made no mistake to beat POB and give us the ticket to the semi final. Well done to all; OG and Latini for a really great game and in the right spirit all along. To be honest none of the teams deserved to lose today but eventually one had to. MOM Gaulois: Once again a few contenders. Toudi was tremendous in midfield once more, but the award goes to Hugo (le bon) for his brace of goal, and an overall impressive performance during the game and later at 1 Altitude. MOM Latini: Goes to Rory who was a threat all game long.
