Solid 3 Points

Hotspurs will be pleased with this weekend's victory against a decent German side. Hostpurs played well in the first half- keeping the ball a lot better than in recent weeks- and deserved their 2-0 half time lead courtesy of goals from Lawro (penalty) and Lionel. The Germans came back well in the second-half, piling men forward and despite clawing a goal back they couldn't quite find the equaliser. Solid performance from Martyn between the sticks, and a well-earned Man of the Match showing from midfield enforcer Martin Lawrence. Just like a good wine- he gets better with age. Thanks to the Germans for a well-fought game.

It's going down...

After the sad cancellation last weekend where GAS could not find enough players to compete with SCC, we were able to field a decent squad against the Hotspurs to which we lost 3-0 in the first match this season after ball possession of 80 to 20 on a rainy Friday night. This time it was a different match against a solid Hotspurs squad with not too many chances in the first 20 minutes. Both teams where keeping it tight in the middle of the park without too many chances created on either side. The first big chance for us was created by a nice chip from Quirin into the box where Basti took a nice and strong header. However, another great reaction from the Hotspur keeper who already drove us crazy in the said match last year! Right afterwards the referee awarded a penalty to Hotspurs when the GAS defense was not able to clear a long throw-in to the box. A slight unwanted hand reflection led to an at least debatable penalty – 1:0. Some minutes later another sloppy pass by the – in principal solid – GAS defense led to a good chance for the Hotspurs, which was nicely converted by their MoM – 2:0. During the break GAS decided to turn things around, avoiding to lose against Hotspurs for a second time this season. And the will and morale was soon rewarded when another cross by Quirin was deflected by Basti Wolff and the difference was down to one goal. GAS was up for at least gaining back one point and tried to create more pressure and showed some nice passing while reducing the error ratio compared to the first half. To cut a long thing short, both sides were not able to create clear chances in the last 30 minutes and the match ended with another 3 points for Hotspurs. Congrats to them. We are looking forward to making up for it in the upcoming season. GAS now needs to concentrate on the next matches, keep the heads high and build on the positive aspects from this match to finish 10+ in this year’s table.
