Normally at this point in the season, win, lose or draw, I would be writing jokes about Hotspurs being alcoholics and stinking of straight gin but somehow I can't be arsed this week. Sore one to take for the Hotspurs, no doubt, albeit a thoroughly deserved win for the Lions. Best wishes to Tom and we hope he makes a speedy recovery.
It was always going to be a tough affair against a Gaelic Lions side whose early-season form has seen them emerge as potential title contenders, and a strong Hotspurs squad showed up eager to make it as tough as possible for them. Gaelic started brightly as expected, but were unable to make this tell in a fairly even first half in which Hotspurs defended solidly and held the ball well in patches. Coming out after the break however, the men in green were eager to make the breakthrough, and battled hard with an assault on the Hotspurs goal for the majority of the second 45 minutes. Hotspurs defended well, but it was heartbreak late-on as they conceded a controversial last-minute goal with only 10 men on the pitch- shortly after Manager Greene had been carried off with a suspected concussion. The less said about some of their behaviour the better, but congratulations to a strong Gaelic Lions squad on a win which their second-half onslaught ultimately deserved. A really tough defeat to take given the circumstances, but on to SCC next week, and eager to go bounce back.
