The sun showed no mercy for this 3 pm kick off. The heat was scorching, but both teams put in a good fight, played in a great spirit. The referee had an easy game. Swiss FC had 8 players in the squad of 14 aged 18 and under. That must be the youngest team fielded in the Cosmo League since UWC played in the league in the early 90s (including Dan andTom Bennett!). Six of these youngsters in the starting line-up, and five players donning the Swiss shirt for the first time. So no surprise that it took a while for the team to click, and sadly we gave up an early goal after two minutes. Sloppy. But the reaction was positive, and while Latini had their chances, it was Sean who was fed by Julian who was unlucky to see his shot go inches wide. Latini then doubled the lead, again a bit unfortunate for the Swiss, as a GK clearance went straight to a Latini player who could not miss. But again a great reaction from Swiss FC and it was Paul Le Holloco who crowned his man-of-the-match performance with a great volley into the roof of the net, after great work down the right by Julian and Sean. But another soft goal form a corner kick and 3:1 Latini at the break. The coach was pleased with the performance at the break and suggested that we can get back into the game if we score an early goal. Latini must have overheard the conversation, as they scored within 20 seconds of the restart to probably kill off the game. But to the credit of the young team, Swiss FC never gave up. And Laurent Brutsch scored with his first touch of the game when he side-footed the ball into the roof of the net following a corner from Andrew. His first league goal at age 16, not bad, buddy! The last goal belonged again to Latini for the 6:2 scoreline. While it may be difficult and at times frustrating to have to play the rotation every Saturday, it is very encouraging to see how the young players work hard. Paul in midfield is outstanding, his workrate is exceptional. And Nic and Nik played very well in defense and midfield respectively. Sean and Julian did well until their bodies gave up...The boys are enjoying the games, and surely the results will come. Well done Latini for a great game. Good luck for the rest of the season. You look like a top 3 or 4 team.
...It was a scorching afternoon and the Singapore sun had front row seats for this 3PM kick off. In tough conditions we were looking forward to our encounter with the new look Swiss. 1TM Latini were ready to go against what looked like a very young Swiss side with a few new faces. We wanted to and did get out of the blocks and scored very early on. Lego was not wasting any time in a bid to make his Mom & Dad proud who were in the stands. They had flown out specifically to see their sons perform. 1TM Latini enjoyed most of the possession and looked in control of the game but the Swiss were still creating some chances. A couple of headers and a clear cut chance were all missed. It was 1TM Latini who were the more clinical and indeed doubled the score line. The ball being cleared and with the keeper off his line Ko pounced and shot from distance into the open net. Aided by some sloppy marking the Swiss scored their second goal of the season following some clever play down the right hand side. The ball fell nicely to no.15 Peter (Swiss man of the match) who made no mistake with an assured finish. Game on again. However, 1TM Latini were able to put some breathing space back following CFD’s cheeky shinnie into the corner of the goal. His first goal of the season meant we held a 3 v 1 advantage at the HT interval The first goal of the second half was always going to be critical. Fortunately, it would be for 1TM and we wasted no time scoring instantly from the break with Rory A finishing nicely (It was so quick Nick Anderson couldn’t get the camera ready in time! After missing a few chances in the first half he wasn’t messing around in the second and Rory would go to double his tally with assists from both the Townsend brothers. You could say more sloppy defending contributed to the Swiss 2nd goal, but it was a great finish for the supersub youngster who attacked the ball well in the box. There was still time for 1TM to increase the lead. He was hungry for it and Rory A did indeed finish nicely with a one on one in the last few minutes to take home the match ball. 6-2 FT Thank you to the Swiss for a good spirited battle in tough conditions. Great to see so many youngsters on show. Despite the low league position, we’re sure with the attitude and talent shown the Swiss will improve and start picking up some points soon. 1TM MOTM was a tight post game vote at the pub. Rory A edging out Pep with his hattrick. Swiss MOTM: Paul Le Helloco (no.15) Kit: Tommy Balls: - ? Special thanks to our supporters as well, Mr & Mrs Townsend and Nick Anderson It was also Hectare's last game for the red, white & blues. We wish him all the best!
