Bleeding Green

This deserved if slightly surprising result was exactly what our season needed. We played some excellent attacking football in the first half, and then defended solidly in the second half while always posing a threat on the break. Knotty even looked looked like he might be enjoying himself with an armband on. Like the Vikings seemed to be, we were missing a load of regulars, which meant a few experiments that ended up paying off. The 3-4-2-1 formation had Shaz playing as a sweeper for the first time for us, and his pace kept getting us out of trouble right through the game. Lippy and Julio also seemed to enjoy their no. 10 roles, especially in the first 30 minutes when we got ourselves 2-0 up as they caused all kinds of trouble. Niko got the first goal, meeting in a cross from left wing with his shin and looking very relieved when it bobbled in off the post. Julio's free kick also had plenty of luck about it, getting a big deflection off a wall that split in two. The goals were fortunate, but they reflected the way the game was going. We could have had more. Dan missed a one-on-one after Lippy put him through, and injured himself doing it. That meant Andy pushed up top with Heljar coming on at the back. Andy then came close to putting us 3-0 up, but the keeper got a foot on his shot to keep it out. The game gradually started to turn though, and after Joey had a bit of a moment and gave away a less-than-necessary penalty, which they scored, it was mostly Vikings who made the running. The second half was nervy, Viking often almost finding a through, especially with balls over the top, but last ditch defending, Heljar's head (HellYeah!), a missed open goal and Joe's safe hands saw us hold out. Special mention to Lippy for playing with a sock tied round his bleeding head, but Captain Knotty was our scuttling MoM.
