Depth of SCC squad proved too much for Hibs

This Saturday afternoon was going to be a test to the depth of our squad since many of our first team players turned out to be away, including our skipper and a few members of our most recent starting eleven. With only 12 players available for selection at KO and Gaelic Lions' win over Rangers the night before, we knew we had a point to prove which is probably why we started the game rather sloppily and perhaps not as decisive as we are used to, be it in front of goals or in challenges. Nonetheless, after a couple of chances created by our ever-creative front 4, Liam opened the scoring from a set-piece on the 20th minute, using his chest to control the ball down before finishing from close range. From that goal onwards, it was one-way traffic and Liam doubled the advantage after dribbling past the Hibs keeper from a good through ball from Ross. Matt Hulen made it 3-0 before the break with an absolute pile-driver from 30 yards straight into the far top corner. The second half started very much where we left it with a few chances early on though it took us some time to convert number 4, 5 and 6, all courtesy of Liam who ended his goal drought in style. Hibs fought until the end but maybe lacked the quality needed to put us in danger. The depth of our squad proved too much and that result is probably more significant than it seems since we managed to do it in style despite many absentees. Well done to those involved! MOM for Hibs goes to Dan Martin and to Liam for us, claiming 5 goals.

We Don't Help Ourselves

Hibs went down comprehensively to SCC by six, but it was the gifts that hurt the most. Hibs were largely untroubled in the first 20 - 25 minutes and looked threatening themselves. SCC had a lot of possession but played in front of the away defence and Joey marshalled their young winger with relative ease. The first goal was a problem caused all by mistakes and SCC don't need invitations. The second came from our possession and delayed pass that was blocked and that was two. The third was a screamer, so fair play and that was half-time. Heljar made his debut in the second half and Hibs continued to toil and play on the counter. Shotton was lapping up the presents and making no mistakes in finishing his chances. In between, Joey, hit the bar, Dan shot wide and Guillaume added some energy when he came on, shooting over. Mistakes cost us, overall, but SCC were well worth their win. MoM - Joey SCC - Shotton
