Final Showdown! Time to park the bus or not!

Last game of the season against SCC Firsts at Dempsey and the Vikings start the game in a compact 4-5-1. The Vikings started a bit nervous bit with good energy in the central midfield consisting of Laurenborg, Tomas and Jonas. The game bounced back and forth until the right wing from SCC picked up a great pass from the midfield and put the ball into the side-net, 1-0. The Vikings took a few minutes time and a quick waterbreak to get back in positions and slowly started fighting their way back into the game. Strong performance from Boe, Tommie, Elbo and Lindved to keep the SCC strikers away from creating chances for the rest of the game. Kejser af Norge played a great game up front, supported by constant runs from Jesper, Tomas and Jonas. Jonas had a big chance just before half time to make an equalizer but hit the cross bar. Mid-way through the second Vikings got a corner kick which Boe somehow manages to put his head on the ball despite having his back towards the goal – and makes it 1-1. Vikings continued to dominate most of the second half, especially as SCC got a red card. MOM goes to Elbo! Thank you to SCC Firsts (and congrats of a well-deserved 1st place), the referees and the supporters for a fair game and a great season.

Report

Last match of the league saw SCC fielding a young team to give the academy players a chance to shine. A good start by both teams creating close chances. Young Jamie marking his return from injury with a well taken goal in the first half. However Vikings did well to maintain pressure and create chances, albeit in some instances with the help of defence errors from SCC. A Viking's header just before half time led the teams on par going into the second half. The second half started unfortunately with SCC's central defender being sent off for a second yellow card, which made for an interest spectacle of 10 vs 11. Credit to SCC for maintaining a high level of play and still creating chances through clever moments of play, and holding off Viking's attack. A draw perhaps a fair outcome for both sides. Cheers to Vikings, all the best for next season. Here's another match report. Will the cosmo league gives us $50 back for submitting two? With half the team in Bali celebrating Bowden’s wedding, SCC managed to field a 13 man squad with the help of those that didn’t get invited to the wedding and the talented players from the SCC Soccer academy. http://www.sccsocceracademy.com/ The first half was relatively even with regards to chances. SCC scored first with Jamie finding space behind the Vikings full back and finished calmly into the back of the net. On the stroke of half time the Vikings equalized when their striker headed home to make it 1-1 at half time. The half time talk was to keep working hard for each other and don’t talk to Brad. Chris obviously wasn’t listening and got his marking orders after 55 minutes. With the remaining 35 minutes to play with 10 men we knew it would be difficult to get a result. However we started to play better than we did in the first half, and created some opportunities to win the game. Vikings also had a few more chances but failed to find the back of the net and the game finished with one point each. MOM for the Vikings – Tommie at the back looking composed in his new position. MOM for SCC – Anthony for driving us on especially when we went down to ten men
