Hibs Pay for Missed Chances

Hibs went down 0-2 to Vikings in a close fought game on the PSA, but they failed to convert the chances that came their way, especially in the first half. Hibs came into the game with a deep squad for a change and had selection options. The guys that started the game did so well and the combination play caused Vikings some issues. Andrew had a good opportunity but his touch let him down for a change and Peter hit the bar as he diverted Nick’s header. Hibs really should have taken a lead into the break following several corners that nearly resulted in goals. Vikings had a couple of chances themselves, but it remained 0-0 and Vikings had a chance to gather themselves and plan domination of the second period. Injuries didn’t help Hibs with An-Rui and Jamie having to go off injured and with this momentum shifted. Alex was called into action more regularly and the passing dried up. As a result, Vikings had good spells of possession and opened the scoring with a tap in at the near post after Hibs failed to keep possession in their half. Hibs still carried a threat and were wasteful in good positions. It was direct long ball that sealed the win and opened up the Hibs defence. Colin had a good chance late on but he couldn’t keep his shot down. Man of the match goes to Alex for a very mature performance and a couple of very good saves. There were many other good performers though. For Vikings, their young number 9 showed some wonderful touches and looked very bright.

Important Win before travelling to Beijing and try to get the Viking Trophy back!

On a humid Saturday afternoon 15 Vikings showed up at PSA Club to see the pitch in the best condition we have ever seen! Vikings started in a 4-4-2 and had some trouble hanging on to the ball. That resulted in a lot of sprints for the back four as we lost the ball on the midfield and Hibs had a fastbreak. Hibs had control most of the first half and a had a few good chances. One on the post and around 10 corners. Only after the water break the Vikings were able to play the ball more around and get some chances. We had a miss on a open goal and generally had problems hitting the target. Vikings finished the half in control with a few good chances. 2nd half was a lot different than first Viking in control playing the ball around. Vikings got the lead after some nice play on the right side and great cross from Park Ji Boe and US was there to put it in. After the first goal Vikings was in total control and shortly after Vikings got their second goal. On a clearance from Bimse, Rick and Leslie took off and chased the ball, Rick won the dual with the keeper and was able to put it in on a empty goal. Vikings up 2-0. After that there wasn't much to report, Vikings played it around and kept trying for a 3rd goal, but didn't get close. Hibs had a good shot, but Bart was there to save it. Not the best start for the Vikings, but came together after the water break and 2nd half was a different game. Thanks to Hibs and the Ref for a good game. MOM for Vikings was Tommie on the midfield and for Hibs it goes to old Viking Colin:-) 31 Vikings players will travel to Beijing this week to try to conquer the Viking Trophy and bring it back to Singapore.
