Given the run Hotspurs are on, it's encouraging that we have them a great match and had chances to win it. Their extra confidence at the moment maybe showed in the end. We were excellent in the first half an hour, taking the lead and creating a bunch of other decent chances. Alex had to pull off at least one very good save but it felt like we were on top. Once they got their goal a few doubts crept in and we were happy to get to half time for Gary to give us a little pep talk about being positive. That cheered us up and the second half followed a similar pattern. More good chances created, particularly Dan's miss hit volley at the back post from a little dink by Andrew. It just needed a decent connection. Andrew also should have had a penalty when he got behind their Defence and was dragged to the ground by the shoulders. Dan rightly had goal disallowed for handball but that shouldn't wipe off the nutmeg in the build up. Hotspurs made us pay ten minutes from the end at a set piece, which is where they always look strong. We had a bit miscommunication when deep corner was nodded back across, and Roseburgh was the sharpest to respond. Their keeper teed up Little Talbot straight after but it took a "dodgy bounce". A third quickly followed from another mix up, before An Rui smashed in a shit from just outside the box with almost the last kick of the game. We can take plenty of positives from how we're playing. We just need a bit more of Gary's sunny, confident outlook. Our MoM was Andrew, for them Roseburgh.
Ten wins in 13 games... this really is uncharted territory for Hotspurs. Had it not been for that shocking start of five defeats from their first five games of the campaign, who knows where the boys in (sky) blue would be as we reach the business end of the season. Hotspurs welcomed prodigal son Josh Donovan back for the visit to Hibs, but all the talk pre-match was of how they'd cope without the marauding runs and lengthy throw-ins of Lionel Kong. Hotspurs did cope, but only just - having to come from behind to eke out another three points thanks to goals from Adam McCarthy, Ali Roseburgh and Martin Lawrence. Onwards and upwards. Next up, champions-elect SCC.
