Interesting week, tough build up knowing we had so many players away but being able to bring in some new players gave the squad a lift heading into a big tie with the casuals. We had our most disapointing defeat in the first half against casuals and AIoli PM were eager to Give a better account of ourselves. Change of tactics saw us concentrate on negating the casuals movement with plenty of men behind the ball. The game started with casuals gaining plenty of territory and causing some problems for our defence in the first 20. We reorganised and we're able to frustrate casuals, forcing them to launch balls over the top. With evergreen Ivan making his competitive debut on the wing we began to get in behind on the break and started to build a good counterattack strategy. Midway through the first half a hopeful ball over the top to adri was finished brilliantly after adri battled all the way into the box and finished with a lob. Within 5 minutes a ball from Ivan to the back post was nearly turned back by eric to darren who stuck it in the corner from the edge of the box 2-0. Figuring out at this stage that playing on the break was working quite well sat back. Casuals committed plenty forward with the NextBus interception in midfield Thibault sent a cross field pass into Ivan's stride on the left wing, a great first time cushioned pass across the edge of the box was met by a nice chip by darren to give us the 3-0 lead. A flattering end to the first half given casuals had most of the possession and territory. 3-0 HT Second half kicked off with casuals frantically trying to get a goal. Great work from the midfield trio of adri tibo and Harry winning possession no keeping it meant we passed the ball much better. A tight second half with casuals creating a few half chances. We still felt we had goals in us. The introduction of greg for a cramping up Ivan steadied the ship again and Oliver came on and gave their defence a tough time. Eventually a long ball sent Oliver through, he touched it to the right and finished back across the keeper to make it 4-0. A great win for us against a battling casuals team. A solid defensive performance. Tough to pick a MOM out of our 3 CMS but Harry was chosen for an all action performace at 16 years of age. Next up SCC, 4 from 4 ?

Match Report

Friday 20th January 2017 will go down as one of the most historic events in modern history. Donald J Trump inauguration was some event! I for one watched with great interest. Some high level history first; An inauguration ceremony takes place for each term of a president, which is 4 years. If there is a second term there is also an inauguration ceremony. The Chief Justice administers the oath to the president however the actual oath is done twice! Who knew! Its first done privately and the next day its done publically i.e. the inauguration. Some cool things I learned on that Friday and stuff that got me thinking. Like, the Bible(s) used when the president elect is being sworn in. As the president elect you get to choose, so typically you’ll have your family Bible and then another – Trump went for Abraham Lincoln as did Obama but he also had Martin Luther Kings Bible! Greedy. But that got me thinking, what Bible would I use if I were to be become the President of the US. I don’t think I have a family Bible unless you can count my completed Euro 96 sticker book but that probably wouldn’t look good especially when it says Football and not Soccer. I’m a big fan of the Netflix show Vikings and of course Ragnar but he was a pagan although I think Christian also but ultimately conflicted…alas I don’t think the Pagans had a book of sorts. So I then thought who else could I borrow a Bible from would I want (I ignored the logistically constraints of having to ask for a dead persons Bible) could I ask Paul McGrath? Villa legend and whose nickname was ‘God’ would I then be asking for Gods own bible? ruled this out due to possible complexities, other names like David Beckham, Jessica Alba and Rodney Trotter came to mind also. After a good 3 hours of thinking I figured that it’s unlikely that ill become President of the US anytime soon so I parked the question for a later date. That said, I think I would I make a great President, maybe I could rule Australia, that would be an easy gig I think, they’re like the 4th brother that no one really notices or cares about. Yeah, I could rule that place. There were some great moments that were so intrinsically linked to football! Hillary had a face like Big Sam after he too was caught lying and trying to wangle money for himself. Good old George W Bush had a Balotelli moment when trying to put on his rain mac and Obama sat there looking like Fergie when handing over the reins to Moyes. Brilliant. And then it ended. Full time!
