Lack of Clinical Edge Costs Hibs in 3–1 Defeat to Vikings Hibs fell to a 3–1 defeat against a well-organised Vikings side in a high-tempo, competitive match that saw both teams create chances but the visitors prove far more ruthless in front of goal. The first half ended goalless, with Hibs edging the better opportunities. Pressing high and moving the ball well through midfield, Hibs carved out several promising openings with slick one and two-touch moves, without any clear cut changes. Vikings looked dangerous on the break, but were largely kept at bay thanks to a disciplined defensive performance, and the two sides went into the break level. The game turned dramatically in the 20 minutes following the restart. Vikings took the lead shortly after the break, when their captain reacted quickest to a loose ball from a corner. From an acute angle, he thrashed home a powerful finish to make it 1–0. It was 2-0 soon after. A shanked Vikings pass in midfield somehow ended up at the feet of the Viking's striker. Showing pace, strength and composure, he drove forward and slotted home a clinical second goal. The third came not long after, again from a set piece. A corner into the box wasn't dealt with at the near post, with Hibs failing to make first contact. After a scramble in the six-yard box, the ball was bundled over the line to give Vikings a commanding 3–0 lead. To their credit, Hibs kept pushing and were rewarded with a well-worked goal late in the match. A flowing move culminated in James Baldwin lifting a deft finish over the advancing keeper—a goal that was no less than Hibs’ attacking efforts deserved. Despite continued pressure and a few late chances, Hibs couldn’t claw their way back. A lack of finishing proved costly, as Vikings’ efficiency in key moments made the difference. Thanks to Vikings for a strong contest and best of luck for the rest of the season. Also, appreciation to the match officials for their efforts throughout the game.
In our penultimate league game, Viking put out a mix between youth and experience. With many new faces as we start to plan for next season, having lost several of our boys back to Denmark in recent weeks. The game started a bit back and forth with Hibs playing some good football and creating some semi chances. The best Viking chance came from some great play from Aiden and Joe on a counter, which led to a 1 on 1 for AK. 0-0 at HT. Vikings made 4 changes at half time, and for the next 20 minutes played some of the best football in recent weeks. quickly scoring 3 goals, from Tomas and AK with some classy finishes, and debutant Erik scoring a well reacted goal in the box. Unfortunately we couldnt protect the clean sheet, which would have been well earned against a tough side. a great effort from everyone to keep a good run going. Thanks to Hibs for a well contested and fair game, as has been true for all our games with you this season. Thanks for refs also.
