Vikings vs Hibs: Wednesday Night Cup game In an exciting Wednesday night clash, we faced Hibs and emerged triumphant with a 3-1 victory. Despite the challenges posed by our recent participation in the Viking Cup in Jakarta over the weekend, we managed to field a strong and competitive team that showcased both resilience and skill. The young talents on our squad were particularly impressive; their energy and enthusiasm contributed significantly to our success. Their ability to maintain pressure on the opponent and make crucial plays was vital. The senior players also deserve special commendation. Their experience and calmness in high-pressure situations shone through, and two great long distance goals from Tomas and a close range finish from Jacob was enough to secure the victory on the day. Big shout out to Magnus playing his last game before heading back home. Come back soon. Thank you to Hibs for a good and fair played game and the referees for a well managed game.

Crucial Cup Loss

A crucial cup game for Hibs’ season where we needed at least a point to have a chance of finishing in the top two of our group. As the teams rolled up, it was clear the Vikings had strength in numbers and we knew a difficult night lay ahead with several of our key forward players missing. Unfortunately, Hibs got off to the worst possible start inside 5 minutes when a poor giveaway in our final third – something that has cost us all too often this season – landed straight at the feet of the Vikings’ skipper. Hibs’ defence left completely out of shape but, rather than playing the obvious through ball, he caught Bill on the edge of his box and hit it first time. Taken by surprise, and backpedaling, Bill couldn’t quite keep it out. Vikings continued by dominating the ball and territory, and in particular looking dangerous out wide. However, offensively Hibs were finding the channels and causing some problems. At the 30 minute mark, one such moment led to a set-piece and, after some ping-pong in the Vikings box, a strike at goal from Fabian was deflected in via Nick to add to his recent goal tally. 1-1. Shortly after, Hibs missed a gilt-edged chance to go into half-time with a surprising lead. Capitalizing on a loose pass in the Vikings back line, Fabian seemed certain to score but just dragged his shot wide of the post. With just the one substitution available, Hibs knew we would have to rotate smartly to have any chance of keeping up with the intensity of the game in the 2nd half. The Vikings, however, proved too strong and credit to them for coming out of the blocks and producing good quality on the ball. After drawing a few saves from Bill and several close shaves, Vikings finally took a deserved lead at the hour mark albeit again coming from a Hibs giveaway (this time from our own throw-in). After the drinks break, Hibs put their best spell of the game together and for 10-15 minutes looked capable of getting an equalizer. Throwing caution to the wind for the last 10, we switched to 3 at the back but conceded immediately in the next phase of play. Space had opened up and the Vikings worked the ball well to the edge of the box where the Vikings’ skipper (undoubtedly the best player on the pitch) shifted the ball to his weaker left foot and produced a sumptuous strike that kissed the post on its way in. That was that and the game finished 3-1. The depleted Hibs fought well but faced a much better team tonight. Thanks to the Vikings for a good game and wish them luck in the rest of the competition. A mention as well to the officials who managed the game well.
