A very wet start to the game and it got wetter and wetter with Vikings starting better and more sensibly. They scored the opener reacting quickest to Bill’s parry. Bill pulled off stunning save no. 1 to tip an effort onto the post and the game stopped for 20 minutes. Hibs played much better when they reinserted with Dan causing problems and players playing to the conditions. There was a shout for a penalty and Bolts hit the bar with a header but 0-1 at 45mins. The rain started to ease after 10 minutes of the second-half and Vikings adjusted better as the pitch, which was draining superbly, returned to close to normal. They went two up reacting first to the initial shot coming off the post. Hibs huffed and puffed but a couple of injuries meant options were limited and Vikings had a couple of good chances go begging. Bill pulled off stunner no.2 from point-blank range. Bolts was millimeters from a wicked Maayan cross, but that was the last chance. A well deserved win for Vikings but with the 4pm ko not going ahead it was a shame the officials ended the game 7 minutes (plus added) early with the pitch in excellent condition at 4pm. 7 minutes is a along time in football and clearly Black Coffee pre-game was calling the officials. You never know what could have happened…. BUT Xav would have hit a screamer after a mazy run off the left and Louis would have scored the equaliser with a set-piece header. We’ll take the positive comeback into our next game!
The game kicked off under light rain, and within a few minutes, Vikings take a one nil lead. Peter with a lovely finish from a keeper Parry. Very quickly the weather took a turn for the worst and after 12 minutes, the game was suspended. Vikings determined to not let another game against Hibs be called off while in the lead this season. Once the game restarted, we adjusted to conditions well creating some chances at the end of the first half, one of which Joe scored on the second attempt of the post. 2-0 to Vikings at halftime. At the start of the second half after making three changes, Hibs came back into the game playing some nice football. As the weather picked up so did the Viking second half performance creating several more chances as Hibs pushed forward. Shout out to the Hibs goalkeeper, making two unbelievable saves in the second half. Good performance from the Vikings, especially defensively, handled the tricky conditions very well. Need to be more clinical in front of goal but a good start to the year. Good luck to Hibs for the upcoming games.
