Good effort from GSAS but not enough

The game vs Gaelic at 11 am on Sat morning with perfect chilly weather and no lightning alerts, GSAS couldn't have asked for more. With another makeshift team but confident after the win in the previous outing GSAS started the game with a lot of energy and were competitive in all areas of the field. Gaelic threatened on few occasions in the first 10-15 minutes but nothin clear, while Peter came close with a long range effort. Around 20th minute Gaelic broke down the left, their winger cutting inside covering defender and curling the ball in to the far post. GSAS went 2 goals down soon after with a quick ball behind the defense and one on one chance. The second half started with Gaelic controlling the possession and GSAS trying to counter. One of the corners resulted in the unintentional handball by Nik and Gaelic were awarded a penalty. Their striker coolly converted the spot kick without giving Rudi any chance. GSAS responded strongly and substitute Thomas made it 3-1 from a long range with his second touch. Gaelic created another goal with a good move and cross from the right. GSAS continued to press and were awarded a penalty similarly for a handball. Ant stepped up but couldn't convert it with Gaelic keeper guessing the right side and making a save. Quirin took the resultant corner and sent the ball all the way to the far post where Madse touched the ball back to Dee, who tapped in into the empy net making it 4-2. GSAS continued to create chances and were awarded another penalty for a foul on Madse during a corner. This time Thomas stepped up to take the kick and yet again was unable to beath Gaelic's keeper. The scoreline stayed the same for the rest of the game. Overall it was a good game of football with both sides going at it. The referees did well and the game was played fairly. MoM to Maik for a formidable first appearance DoD to Ant who despite a good match deserves the honorable DoD title due to his missed penalty (Thomas has a goal to counter) Note to coaches, need to practice penalties!

GSAS/Lions January Battle

The real winner from the weekend was the pitch at the German school, somehow it was in great condition after the monsoon weather!! Lions started as if we were still surprised the game was going ahead, Germans shaded the first 20. However, Lions broke out at pace to break the deadlock with Seanie finding Boyler to expertly place the finish beyond the keeper from the edge of the box. This settled us and we looked dangerous for the rest of the half. Boyler broke free for our second after a nice through ball from Jack. 2-0 at the break. A couple of changes at half time and we controlled the start of the half by pinning them back. Clear but unfortunate handball for a penalty to Lions and up stepped Boyler for the match ball! We made it 4-0 after a great run down the right by Willy picked out Boyler again in the box who couldn't miss! Then we decided to fall asleep!! Fair play to the Germans who kept playing, scored a great long range effort and finished a goal mouth scramble to crawl back into the game! Our keeper, Derek, then had to show his worth by saving two great penalties to help us hold out for the win. Thanks to the Germans and the refs for a great game to kick off the second half of the season!
