GSAS receive their first points as Santa Claus gift

The flood lights were on at GESS for an 8:00pm kick-off, the last game of the ‘Hinrunde’, but also for the last time on a Friday night at GESS. Coming off a very poor run of results with only one win in the season, and that against Vikings FC in the cup competition, meant Cosmo was bottom of the table with zero points. As many regular Cosmo players are injured and travelling, the coaches were scrambling to assemble a competitive squad. In the end it was thanks to our routines and players from Zweite and Dritte that the match roaster could be filled. The goal for the game was clear, get points no matter how, and at the same time to enjoy the last Friday night game of the season. The match plan handed out by the coaches was to be disciplined and compact as a Unit, solid in the defense, calm in posession and quick on the counterattack. The game started with high intensity as Hotspurs were aggressive in their tackling’s and clearly wanted to score an early goal. Cosmo was organized and defended well as a Unit as soon as the opponent crossed the center line. Hotspurs didn’t have any clear chances at the opening half of the game and once the game calmed down Cosmo had some good moments in ball position utilizing the quick wingers for counter attacks. At the half hour mark Cosmo was awarded a free kick just outside the box which Julian tried to take quickly while the Hotspurs keeper was still adjusting his wall, unfortunately the ball brushed over the cross bar. Cosmo had now more moments with the ball, playing out from the back, keeping the ball within the team waiting for the right moment to start an attack. Hotspurs were clearly not happy on how the game progressed and committed to several fouls. The second half started with more ball possession for Hotspurs without any clear-cut chances coming from it. As the game was nearing its last quarter, Cosmo used one of its counter attacks to score the winning goal. A well-placed shot by Thomas rewarded a with devotion fighting team to secure the three points as all Hotspurs efforts were defended away by a solid German defense. A well-deserved win following a great team performance by every single player on the pitch executing the game plan, and showing great mentality by running and fighting for 90 minutes.

Bad day at the office

Our bogey team! A stop-start game where the referee blew every minute. We didn't turn up and the Germans capitalised with a 1-0 win in a fairly even game.
