"After a good first half, Gaulois collapsed in 2nd half" Gaulois SC was looking to bounce back from their opening defeat against IL on this Saturday. They were facing Gaelic Lions who narrowly lost to SFC 1-0 the week before. The weather was much better than the previous week, and Gaulois was ready to fight for the victory. After only few min, Theo got a concussion and had to leave the pitch which left the team without one of their key assets. Yet, Gaulois kept their focus and displayed a very good football for the 1st 45min, having control of the ball, and many chances. As last week, Gaulois failed to score on some easy chances, and it is only after 30min that Anatole scored on a nice collective action. Despite several opportunities to score the 2nd, Gaulois went to the locker room at 1-0. While the break gave some extra legs to the opponent, it seems that it was the opposite for Gaulois who did not enter the 2nd half with the same intentions. Gaulois did not have the possession in the midfield anymore and was only proceding by counter attack. Gaelic was getting more and more dangerous with free kicks and long balls. So 10min before the end of the game, Gaelic equalized on a free kick not well cleared by the defense which found the header of their player. Gaulois had the opportunity to go up again but Anatole missed the chance and Gaelic punished Gaulois on the counter. The team is displaying a good team spirit and playing well, but 2 losses in 2 games is not acceptable. on ourselves to blame for not 7killing the game earlier. Big opposition in 2 weeks against Viking. Heads up and allez Gaulois!
The morning rain over Singapore gave the boys a bit of false hope going into a 1pm kick off at SIA Sports Club, however the sun managed to find its way out setting up another sweltering afternoon of football. Gaulois had the better of the first 20 minutes and their hard work was rewarded with a goal around the 30 minute mark after we struggled to clear our lines following a cross into the box. The Gaelic Lions started the second period strongly and started to create more chances throughout the half. Gaulois also had chances of their own, however it wasn’t until the last ten minutes did we see any more goals. The equaliser came off a set piece and headed in by Daire Flanagan, before a searching ball by Smithy found Oscar on the left, who did well to bring the ball down and put in a beautiful cross to Burkey, who finished it off nicely in the bottom right hand corner of the goal. Much to the delight of the Gaelic boys after a very tough game - a draw probably being a fair result. Certainly not the prettiest game of football, but loads of heart and character from the lads to come back in the second half. Onto the next one.
