SFC 1 Gaelic Lions 0

Hot conditions to kick off the new season! A well contested game with both teams keeping a disciplined formation. A few well worked passages of play nearly led to us scoring in the first half. A solid SFC defence managed to keep dangerous Gaelic strikers at bay from the long ball attempts. We finally broke the deadlock early in the second half with a well worked move down the right with Luke and Nick linking up to feed Liam Shotton the ball at the edge of opposition’s box, driving past a defender and smashing a rocket into the top left corner. The match remained tight until the end with the Gaelic keeper making some fine saves to keep the score at only 1-0. Thank you Gaelic Lions for the well spirited competition and to the match officials for a fair game.

Close but no cigar

A blazing hot day on the new turf at Dulwich College set the scene for what we knew would be a tough battle against last year’s league Champions. The game started as we expected, with SFC dominating possession early on and the Gaelic Lions attempting to absorb the pressure and hit the opposition on the counter. We felt we restricted SFC to any clear cut chances and Ginger Drogba was working well to hold up and the ball and bring our wingers, Sean Flanagan and Shane Ryan in to play to create chances at the other end and put their back line under pressure. Thankfully, temperatures dropped slightly in the Second half and the tempo did increase. SFC started to shift the ball quicker, and the only goal of the game was soon to follow. A couple of half chances for us along with a couple of good saves from our goalie meant the game ended 1 nil to SFC. A good game of football against a top side - special shout outs to our young full back, Tom O’Donnell who arguably had his best game in a Gaelics shirt. To Reidy who is not a keeper but used his GAA skills and was outstanding all game and to Shane Ryan who was a constant threat down the left flank. Thank to SFC and to Urs and his team for reffing. Good luck for the rest of the season.
