SFC showed up at the American School against a very fired-up Hibs side. Whilst SFC dominated possession Hibs remained a threat on the transition early on, thanks to some good hold-up play from their centre forward. It would be a set piece that broke the deadlock and this would become a theme of the game. Fazrul Nawaz delivered a good front post corner, which Tim Walter smartly flicked on to beat the keeper at the near post. SFC doubled their lead when Faz found Michael Campion unmarked at the edge of the box from a corner, the first attempt was well blocked but Campo smartly volleyed home the rebound. Man of the match Faz then had a goal for himself after blocking a pass from the Hibs keeper to deflect into an empty net. Hibs didn’t stop battling and won a free kick on the edge of the SFC box just before the break, which was well finished and left the score 3-1 at half-time. Set pieces would again be the downfall of Hibs, with Nick Marsh delivering a superb corner into their box, flicked on by Liam George and finished off from close range from Joe Claridge. Once again, Hibs hit back finishing a loose ball after SFC failed to clear it convincingly. Thanks to Hibs for a very competitive game and best of luck for your remaining matches.
After a demoralising 9-0 defeat last time against the league leaders, Hibs were motivated to show their true colours in the reverse fixture. It didn’t start well despite the emphasis on doing just that. Tommy, deputising for Bill, made a good save from Shotton in minute two when Hibs switched off. SFC took the lead from a corner. Poor work at the near post punished with an accurate header. Then a cleared corner steered into the top corner made it two and a complete detonation presented the third. Dan, Sam and Bolts caused some problem for the SFC backline. Hibs kept on playing and Will drilled in a free-kick, he’d won himself, from 20 yards. The second-half saw another goal for SFC from a corner. Quite unbelievable really. However, Julian, on his return from injury, added drive and a spark to set up Will who guided his shot into the corner for 2-4 with 25 minutes to play. Julian almost danced his way to a third for Hibs which would have made it interesting but the game drifted with Hibs effectively down to 10 for the last 15 minutes with an injury to Dan and no subs left. Will was MoM tonight for an excellent midfield performance and Claridge got the nod for SFC.
