A Second Half Collapse

Apart from a funny little crab-like goal-line juggle he did on his back to save the game against Nippon, the best thing about signing Hammo this season was not having him yelling clichés in our strikers’ ears all game on Saturday. It made it way easier to concentrate, and during the first half, before our change of tactics, we didn’t do too bad. Taking the lead against SCC is always nice. We got it from Joey playing a straight-forward ball over their centre backs. Dan ran from deep, got there just before the keeper, and got cleaned out. It looked like one of those clear-cut penalties where everyone just has a smile and gets on with it. But on the day it must have been offside, and now it was outside the box. Dan got up and converted. It wasn’t long after that when Joey undid his good work. Diving in like a div, missing the tackle and giving their winger a clear run at goal. The finish into the bottom corner was very nice. They could easily have added more but Alex had a stormer to keep us level at the break. The original plan for the second half was for Thorin to turn up. When he couldn’t get out of the lab we had to improvise. That meant kicking the ball to their players at every possible opportunity. Lippy led the way, failing to complete a spectacular range of passes, from the Hollywood to the five yarder. Only Andrew didn’t seem to be on the same page as the rest us. He played tidy football and chased around like a hero. This disjointed approach inevitably saw us concede some quick goals. Clayte tried to make up for what Andrew was doing by bringing on Big “Crazy Eyes” Murphy, but he’d only had six cans of Tiger and couldn’t turn the tide. We conceded more. SCC are obviously a good side, but that second half was a disaster. We’re a much better than that and need to start showing it if we’re going to persuade Hammo to spend another season away from Ross. Our MoM was Andrew, even if he did play his own game. MoM for SCC was their centre mid (non-blonde).

Hibs 1 SCC 5

When I was 17 years old I got dumped by my GF. It was a painful experience. She was great, long legs, great personality and a few other positive attributes that I can’t mention in this match report. The feeling was similar when Hammond left for the Hibs. No more cheese board photos, no more bicycle kick winners, no more HK trips together, and no more supplies of jelly beans pre match. Would we ever recover from such a big loss? The only way we can truly recover is by meeting up again, but this will need to wait for another time as him and his BFF Rosco didn’t want to play against each other, so both stayed in bed. The game started off generally well for SCC. Controlling most of the possession and creating some goal scoring opportunities, but with Hibs looking dangerous on the break. The first goal from Hibs came in on the break with a ball over the top found Dan, who was met by an onrushing Ronnie in goals who missed the ball and cleaned him out. A foul that looked outside the box but was given as a penalty, and a yellow shown to Ronnie. Dan stepped up to fire home to make it 1-0 to the Hibs. SCC were soon level after a great finish into the bottom corner by Liam. 1-1 at half time and a very competitive game. SCC started the second half in much better fashion and scored 3 goals in quick succession to effectively kill the game off. Young Sawyer scored the 2nd after a Hutcheon header found his feet to coolly slot home. Hutcheon made it 3-1 after some great work from Inaki down the right and Bowden curled in a freekick to make it 4-1. Tim completed the scoring with a powerful drive into the roof of the net to make the final score 5-1. Mom for SCC goes to Adam Bowden – 25kg lighter and a new player for SCC. Mom for the Hibs goes to Andrew Knott – Worked hard throughout and was always keen to get on the ball.
